HBO Max “The Pitt” one of the most nominated shows at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, with Katherine LaNasa among the nominees. Recently, in the midst of filming the third season, the former actress opened up about the direction of the show and the dynamic of her character with Noah Wyleand Dr. Roby.
Katherine LaNasa Says Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby Situation Is ‘Up and Down’
LaNasa attended the Crisis Treatment Center and Stewart House at UCLA Health’s annual brunch in Los Angeles on September 27. At the event, she spoke to Us Weekly, who first asked about the third season of the show, including how her character, Dana Evans, will interact with Dr. Robby when he returns from sabbatical.
She said, “You know, it’s up and down. There’s a deep love there, and then they can give it to each other.” In addition to discussing the character dynamics, LaNasa also discussed other aspects of the season, including confirmation that the show will continue to deal with hot button issues.
According to her, “We always explore important issues that are not always covered on ‘The Pitt.’ You know, it’s an important issue as a kind of show. ”
‘The Pitt’ will continue to deal with difficult subjects
In terms of important issues to discuss, the second season of “The Pitt” featured a story about a survivor of sexual assault and the full treatment of rape devices. LaNasa spoke about the episode in her Us Weekly interview, noting how powerful it has been for viewers since it aired in early 2026.
She said, “So many women came up to me on the street, and also people who worked in the media, they would interview me about the next season and say, ‘I have to say, that program meant so much to me.
LaNasa then explained the importance of the episode, which was in seventh place from the second season, saying, “I think it means a lot to a lot of women who have been sexually assaulted, and also, as we brought it through the season, shining the light because a lot of rape kits are not processed.
The actress did not go into detail when asked what hot button issues will be addressed in season three of “The Pitt.”
‘The Pitt’ is expected to return in early 2027
The cast and crew began production on the third season of “The Pitt” in mid-June 2026. From there, HBO Max released a first-look teaser in late August 2026 ahead of the Primetime Emmys. So far, the streamer has not confirmed a premiere date. However, the show will return in 2027, and the first two seasons will premiere in January of their respective years.
Entering its third season, “The Pitt” is more popular than ever. According to Variety, its finale, which premiered in April, drew 9.7 million viewers in its first weekend. Overall, the season averaged 15.4 million viewers, a massive 50% increase over the first season.
Katherine LaNasa says her battle with cancer spilled over into her performance on ‘The Pitt’
LaNasa also spoke to Us Weekly in early September 2026 and opened up about how her own personal experience with cancer informed her role as an emergency room nurse on “The Pitt.” According to her, “When I had cancer, I was really surprised at how kind the nurses were to me in that hospital and – and just in general, everyone at Piedmont in Atlanta. [was] very kind and it was so important.”
She continued, “Every detail was important, whether they gave you a warm blanket before the screening or really took their time. Maybe the doctor took more time to explain what was happening, [or] another nurse took more time to explain what was happening. Those little comments and moments of compassion were so important. ”
LaNasa was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in February 2023. She said, “I was able to bring that into Dana – that experience. And also, I really connected with how scary it is to go into the hospital when you’re getting radiation. You go to the hospital regularly, so I got to know what it was like to be a patient.
She recently starred in an upcoming Hulu Series
“The Pitt” is one of the most talked about shows on the air. But amid the success, LaNasa is branching out into other roles after previously saying she thought she wouldn’t be working in Hollywood again before the HBO Max hit series premiered in 2025.
According to Deadline, she has been cast in the upcoming Hulu Limited series “County My Lies,” which will star Shailene Woodley and Lindsay Lohan. Additionally, she joined the cast of the upcoming comedy film “Mister” in April 2026.
