Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans were shocked when it was reported earlier this year that Whitney Rose separating from her husband, Justin Rose.

This month, Whitney, 40, confirmed the news.

In the currently airing seventh season of RHOSLCWhitney said alcohol was no longer serving her and said she was cutting it out of her life.

In a recent interview on the Grabbing With Gib podcast, Whitney opened up more about her relationship with drinking.

As for why she drank so much, Whitney explained that it was because she “hiding and filling in what was going on in my personal life, in my marriage. And I was scared – I didn’t want anyone to know because I didn’t even know.”

“So yeah, there was more drinking because I was just dealing with it,” she continued. “But I was able to take a step back and realize that I can take it or leave it. If it’s not serving me, I don’t need it. And I have a better relationship with alcohol now. And taking a break really helped me realize… the problem wasn’t the drinking at all; the problem was that I am not working through the elephant in the room: my marriage.”

Whitney recently spoke with Out and addressed her co-star’s comments Meredith Marks made when the news of her separation came.

“It’s ironic when you see [everything] what is said about you is evident in the people who said it. There is much more to come on this topic, but people who spread negativity about an aspect of someone else’s life are usually insecure about it in their own lives. 2026 has been a year of karma in so many different ways,” Meredith, 54, posted on Threads on July 22.

“Let me be clear to those who are trying to read too deeply into my opinion,” she said later. “I’m not wishing anyone ill or celebrating anyone’s downfall. But I do note the irony in karma when someone has lied about me to hide their truths. Like I said you don’t even know a lot of the issues I’m talking about here but I believe in karma and I hope that everyone in my life finds their own happiness, whatever that may be that means to them.”

“I don’t want to hurt my friends!” Whitney began. “Something I’m learning is how to stand up for myself. Especially with Meredith and Lisa, I feel like there’s a double standard. My kindness is mistaken for weakness. This season’s apology tour was frustrating.”

“Meredith, I tried,” she continued. “I gave it my best shot. We’ll share a beautiful moment later in the season, but she ruined that recently when the news broke about Justin and I. It’s very hypocritical.

new sections of RHOSLC airs weekly on Bravo on Wednesdays at 8:00pm ET.
