Jane Keough‘daughter, Kara Keough-Bosworthoffers a heartbreaking update on the Real Housewives of Orange County alum’s cancer battle after a weeklong visit with her in Southern California.
Months after Jeana, 71, confirmed she had been diagnosed with tongue cancer, Kara, 37, said she was “struggling” as she continued to rely on a feeding tube while undergoing intensive treatment she apparently did not agree to.
“Mom is struggling. She’s still not getting any oral nutrition but maybe a few bites and then she gets frustrated with the effort and the lack of taste,” Kara told Page Six on Oct. 21, adding that Jeana’s main source of nutrition is a feeding tube.
“[She is] feels a lot of remorse because of the side effects of her treatment,” Kara continued. [It’s been] very hard. She still sleeps a lot and has a lot of coughing which makes her vomit. She does speech and hip therapy twice a week, but we still have a long way to go.”
In late July, Jeana told Page Six in an email that she was expected to be on a feeding tube for two to six months during her treatment and that she had a 40 to 60 percent cure rate within five years.
According to the outlet, Jeana has undergone “tongue splitting, surgery to insert a feeding tube, throat dissection to remove dozens of nodes, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy,” and suffered malnutrition and dehydration.
Jeana was also treated for a blood clot and leg infection.
As RHOC as fans may have heard, Jeana first started experiencing health-related symptoms last year, showing a painful sore on her tongue, which her dentist thought was just an injury from sharp teeth that needed to be documented. But after being referred to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctor, Jeana scheduled a biopsy and learned that the soreness was no small matter.
“That doctor took one look in my mouth and said, ‘That’s cancer,'” Jeana previously said.
According to Kara, she and her sisters, including brothers Shane Keough40, and Colton Keough34, feels it was not detected early enough.
