Inside the suspicious time behind Shia LaBeouf’s divorce filing with Mia Goth

Mia Gothdecided to formally end her marriage Shia LaBeouf it came at a particularly wonderful time. The “Pearl” actress filed for divorce on Oct. 6, one day after FKA branches notified the court that LaBeouf had agreed to suspend the non-disclosure provisions from their previous settlement. The timing means that LaBeouf’s estranged wife moved to legally cut ties just as her famous lover was free to speak publicly about her experiences with him.

Goth filed a petition to dissolve her marriage to LaBeouf in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, October 6.

Goth wants primary legal and physical custody of Isabel, the 4-year-old daughter she shares with LaBeouf. She also asked the court to limit its ability to award spousal support to either party.

According to Us Weekly, Goth said the exact nature and extent of their individual and community property remains unknown. She reserved the right to amend the petition once that information has been verified.

LaBeouf has yet to publicly respond to the filing.

The timing becomes more apparent when juxtaposed with the latest development in LaBeouf’s year-long legal dispute with FKA Twigs, real name Tahliah Barnett. On Monday, October 5, Twigs filed a notice saying the parties had settled their lawsuit over the confidentiality provisions in their previous settlement.

LaBeouf agreed that the controversial nondisclosure provisions were “final and void,” according to documents reviewed by the Los Angeles Times. Twigs then filed a motion on Oct. 6 to have the case dismissed with prejudice, meaning she can’t bring that particular lawsuit again.

Goth filed for divorce the next day.

Twigs first sued LaBeouf in December 2020, accusing him of sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress during their relationship. LaBeouf denied the allegations. The former couple settled the lawsuit privately in 2025 before they could proceed to trial. However, the settlement reportedly included confidentiality provisions limiting what Twigs could say publicly.

Their legal battle ended after LaBeouf was accused of breaching the agreement by discussing their relationship in an interview. Twigs responded with a new lawsuit in March 2026, arguing that the NDA was illegal under California law.

LaBeouf ultimately agreed to drop the controversial provisions, allowing Twigs to speak about her experiences and support charitable causes without fear of legal retribution under the deal. “Therefore this action has served its purpose,” her legal team said in the dismissal request.

Her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, described the outcome as a victory for women who speak publicly about sexual abuse. LaBeouf’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, said the actor wished Twigs the best and had agreed to end their long-running feud.

Despite the dramatic timing, Goth’s own divorce petition provides important context. She listed July 28, 2025, as the date she and LaBeouf split, more than a year before she filed in October 2026 and months before Twigs launched her latest NDA challenge.

The news of their separation also became public months before the divorce was filed. Earlier reports stated that Goth asked LaBeouf to move out, and he later moved to New Orleans to be closer to his family.

The couple had been romantically involved on and off since meeting on the set of “Nymphomaniac: Vol. II” in 2012. They were married in Las Vegas in 2016, separated in 2018, and later reconciled before welcoming Isabel in 2022.

Even without evidence of a direct connection, the moment puts LaBeouf’s relationships with the two women back in the spotlight immediately. Branches can now speak publicly about the abuse she has alleged without being hindered by the controversial NDA. Meanwhile, Goth is moving forward with a divorce case that could deal with custody, property and other aspects of her long relationship with LaBeouf.

The divorce filing also follows a difficult year for the “Transformers” actor. LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans in February after the Mardi Gras altercation. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge and received probation, along with treatment and anger management requirements.

In an interview in March, LaBeouf admitted that he had ruined his marriage, saying that he had made serious mistakes and had broken Goth’s trust. However, Goth has not publicly accused LaBeouf of abuse related to the divorce, and her petition reportedly only cites “irreconcilable differences.”
