Halle Berry these charges will not stand.
Last week news broke that her ex, Olivier Martinezhas been accused of physically abusing their 12-year-old son, Maceo.
At the time, the Oscar A lawyer for the winning actress immediately denied the allegations, saying in a statement:
“To say that this filing is completely unnecessary and intentional would be an understatement. Completely unexpected from someone with a well-documented history of abusive, possessive and violent behavior. Fortunately, Halle is used to this type of abusive behavior from Mr. Martinez and, while deeply saddened, will not let it stop her from fighting for Maceo’s good and giving him the love and support he needs.”
Now, in official court documents filed on Monday, October 5, obtained by People magazine, Halle denies the allegations, writing:
“I have never abused Maceo physically, emotionally or otherwise. I am a victim of domestic violence, and I help victims of domestic violence.
According to the center’s statement, Halle is providing video evidence that she says “directly contradicts” the claims made by her ex-husband. Olivier had previously said in his own court documents:
“She grabbed Maceo by the neck and started choking him while shouting, ‘Who’s on top now?! Who’s stronger?!'”
Olivier also said that Halle had a pattern of abuse, and that this was not the first incident.
Halle denies that she abused her son. She says the incident was not a scene of physical abuse in relation to the VR game, but a moment of “fun housing” – something she says they “do often.”

She also denies that she put her hands around her son’s neck. When things arose “unexpectedly,” she says, it was because Maceo pushed her. The uproar stirred his lover, From Huntto enter the room. This is when Maceo allegedly pushed his mother again after she tried to take his VR headset. Van got between them to stop anything else from happening, according to her account, and this is when Maceo called his father.
Regarding her text messages to Olivier, which included her regrets for how things turned out, she says:
“My text messages to Olivier reflect my distress after Maceo was physically aggressive towards me, not any physical behavior by me towards Maceo.”
Since Olivier wants sole custody, Halle wants a court order of 50/50 custody.
Halle explains that their son is neurodivergent, that he needs support when it comes to certain behaviors, and that she needs professional support that she can provide. Halle says she is the one advocating for more therapeutic practices for their son, and that she and Olivier have never seen eye to eye when it comes to recommended interventional treatments for Maceo.
