Hailey Bieber using her experience with motherhood to draw attention to a women’s health condition that she says has left her feeling isolated.
The model and beauty entrepreneur revealed that she began struggling with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after welcoming her son, Jack, in August 2024.
Now, instead of keeping the experience private, Hailey is opening up about the condition and using her growing business platform to spark conversations about women’s health.
Hailey Bieber described feeling lonely while managing PMDD
Hailey Bieber discussed the situation in an interview with WWDexplaining that her experience began after becoming a mother.
She shares Jack with her husband, Justin Bieber, and said it has been particularly difficult to overcome the disorder because discussions and research about it were still limited.
“After I had my son, I had a problem with it [PMDD] quite a bit, and there just isn’t a lot of discussion or research around it,” she said.
Johns Hopkins Medicine describes PMDD as a more severe form of premenstrual syndrome caused by serotonin deficiency.
For Bieber, talking about the experience helped ease some of the loneliness associated with it.
“Discussion, for me personally, makes me feel less,” she told the publication, explaining that hearing about other women’s struggles can make difficult experiences feel less alone.
Hailey pledged millions towards women’s health research

Hailey Bieber’s interest in women’s health also went beyond her personal experience. She explained that several people close to her had dealt with conditions that deserved more attention, including her older sister, Alaia Baldwin, who struggles with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
“I feel drawn to women’s health,” Bieber said.
Her beauty company, Rhode, also announced a $5 million commitment to the Women’s Health Foundation over three years. The non-profit was founded to address gaps in women’s health research.
The commitment came more than a year after Elf Beauty acquired Rhode in a $1 billion deal, putting the brand’s vast resources behind the research initiative.
Hailey Bieber reveals her uterine condition with a difficult pregnancy

Hailey’s knowledge of women’s health went beyond the PMDD diagnosis she discussed after the birth of her son.
During an appearance on the “SHE MD” podcast in March, the model revealed that she had a uterine septum, a congenital condition that put her pregnancy at a higher risk of complications.
Her OB-GYN, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, had even warned her not to get pregnant before the condition was properly assessed.
“It was a surprise,” Hailey said Independentwhen asked if she and Justin had been trying to conceive. Then Aliabadi said, “I told her, ‘Don’t be serious!'”
The mother of one explained that her doctor had repeatedly advised her to monitor the situation and consider possible treatment.
“Dr.
Hailey admitted that she wasn’t planning on having a baby at the time, so she decided to deal with it when the situation arose. Instead, she became pregnant unexpectedly.
Aliabadi explained that the uterine septum was a thin wall of tissue inside the uterine cavity and that it could be mild, moderate or severe. Hailey was medium, measuring between one and two centimeters.
According to her doctor, that carried an estimated 25-40% risk of miscarriage and a 10-20% risk of preterm delivery.
“I think it was our biggest fear,” she said, explaining that the septum widened as the baby grew. She also revealed that her mother, Kennya Baldwin, had experienced two previous labors, making early delivery especially possible.
Despite the risks, Bieber said that she believed that everything would work out, and that her pregnancy progressed successfully.
More From The Blast
Hailey recalled the dreaded bleeding problem during childbirth

The pregnancy risks associated with Hailey Bieber’s uterine septum were not the only medical complications surrounding the birth of her son, Jack.
She also experienced postpartum hemorrhage, a potentially serious condition caused by excessive bleeding after giving birth. Hailey recalled that she delivered Jack in 44 minutes, only to find that the bleeding wouldn’t stop.
“So, I pushed the baby out [in] 44 minutes. I was like, ‘I did it, I got it.’ And then I couldn’t stop bleeding,” she explained.
The model explained that at first she did not understand how serious the situation was because she was still recovering from the delivery and under the effects of the epidural.
However, the mood in the room changed as medical staff tried to control the bleeding.
“Then I saw her face and then the nurses and they were like giving me all the medicine for a clot and nothing was working,” she recalled, adding, “And they stabbed me in the leg with something and then they stabbed me in the leg with another thing, and I started to feel a little bit of the panic in the room.”
Hailey Bieber discussed the mini-stroke that changed her health outlook

Hailey’s experiences with pregnancy and childbirth were also accompanied by an earlier medical emergency that changed the way she approaches her health.
In February 2026, she discussed suffering a minor stroke in 2022 when she appeared on Jake Shane’s “Therapuss” podcast.
The incident led doctors to discover a congenital heart defect that required surgery.
“A couple of years ago, I had a crazy medical situation. I had a small stroke,” she said. Hailey explained that doctors later discovered a heart defect she was born with, prompting a procedure to close it.
She described the surgery as unusual, noting that doctors accessed the defect through her groin and that she left the hospital the same day.
