Katseye canceled their Detroit show 30 minutes before showtime due to a band member Megan Skiendiel getting sick
“We are so sorry to share that tonight’s show at Little Caesars Arena has been canceled due to illness,” the girl group wrote via Instagram story on Tuesday, November 3. “Unfortunately, Megan is ill and can’t play tonight, and we want to make sure she has the time to rest and recover.
The band, who are currently on their Wildworld World Tour, acknowledged the efforts made by fans to reach the performance of the night. “We know so many of you have traveled, made plans, and been looking forward to tonight,” the statement continued. “We are very disappointed that we will not be able to see you, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience.”
The statement concluded, “Thank you for your patience, understanding, and for always showing us so much love. We love you and can’t wait to see you soon.”
The cancellation comes less than three months after the Los Angeles-based pop group pulled out of a scheduled show at Olivia Rodrigoand the Daisy Chain Fields festival after Skiendiel, 20, sprained her ankle.
Fans took to social media to share their own disappointment on Tuesday night, with some blasting the news. “Katseye just canceled their Detroit [show] 30 minutes before the start! Really disappointed,” wrote one user X alongside a screenshot of the band’s canceled post. “My daughter is so disappointed. I want my $889 I spent back.”
Another X user recognized how unfortunate the situation was while sympathizing with the band. “I was there too, I already bought a $25 drink and $12 worth of food and I was so disappointed,” wrote the second fan. “But I sympathize with the girls too. They’re only 18-22, it’s a lot on them physically.”
The second fan was also speculating about what happened to Skiendiel. “Megan is rumored to be backstage before the show, and if that’s true, [is] really uncontrollable,” they wrote.
The band has attracted several headlines in recent months over non-musical issues. In August, an original member Sophia Laforteza announced via social media that she would be stepping away from the group for a while.
“It really breaks my heart to miss so much,” Laforteza, 23, wrote via her Instagram Stories on August 7.
She also mentioned her own health concerns at the time. “It was not an easy decision to make, but I am learning that health must come first,” continued Laforteza. “I understand that if I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to continue doing what I love for so long.”
She ended her statement by thanking fans for their support. “Thank you for being so patient, understanding, and always showing me so much love. It means more to me than I could ever say. I promise to work as hard as I can to get through this, heal properly, and come back stronger,” she wrote. “Until then, please be kind and give Ketseye your love and support as we fulfill our promise to show you up in every way we can. I’ll be here as one of the “Eyes” in the meantime with you all. I’ll see you soon.”
Us reported in April that a fellow member of that band Manon Flag left the band for good after taking a temporary leave in February due to her own health concerns.
