Kelly Rizzo becoming honest about the truth of grief, almost five years after her husband Bob Saget died
Posting via her Instagram on Thursday, October 8, Rizzo, 47, reflected on the ongoing grieving process after losing Saget in January, 2022. In the post, she shared a list of “strange things about grief” that she had experienced.
“I’m still accepting that there will never be another new photo of him,” she wrote in one of the slides from the post over a photo of the couple previously together.
Other slides revealed the complex emotions she feels as life progresses. “I still feel guilty for feeling happy,” she wrote. Along with another image, she said, “The crying still appears at the strangest times!
On another slide, she said, “Sometimes I think my grief counts less because I only knew Bob for six years.”
Rizzo admitted that she sometimes slips up when she looks at other people’s different ways of managing their own grief.
“Sometimes you catch yourself judging someone else’s grief. What is limitless! (I heard about someone dating after two months, and I immediately thought, ‘That’s too soon! Then I feel bad for judging.)” she wrote.
Rizzo also said that she was determined to remember the late actor no matter how long since his death.
“You still don’t want them to be forgotten. Say their name, tell their stories, it’s so strange how the world moves on,” she wrote.
Another aspect that Rizzo said was “weird” was when Saget entered her subconscious.
“Dreams don’t follow a timeline. I haven’t dreamed about Bob in years, and I had my first significant dream about him just this year,” she wrote.
Rizzo also explained that there have been other big changes since the comedian’s death.
“Your life is divided before and after. BBD and ABD (Before Bob Died and After Bob Died),” she said. Rizzo continued, “Small talk is still elusive. You don’t have time for superficial stuff now.”
In the caption of her post, Rizzo invited her followers to add their personal experiences with grief.
“Grief changes and changes forms and grows over time. It’s always still there. It has different personalities from month to month and year to year. What else would you add to this list??” she wrote.
In January 2022, Saget’s family confirmed that he had died at the age of 65. The cause of death was head trauma after an accidental fall.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today,” his family said in a statement at the time. “He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, playing live and making people from all walks of life laugh.”
