Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 Finally gets a release date

The wait for “Blue Eye Samurai” season 2 is finally over. Well, almost.

While an “early 2027” timeline was previously revealed for the Emmy-winning series, we now have the exact date – January 19, 2027. It can’t come soon enough.

The first season of the adult animated series, created by husband-and-wife duo Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, premiered three years ago today, on November 3, 2023. When the show first launched, it quickly established itself as an animated series unlike any other, blending Eastern and Western influences and animation styles to create a uniquely compelling, immersive experience.

While the first season followed Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine) as she wreaks havoc through Edo-era Japan, the new season sees “Mizu’s bloody quest continue in London, where she faces new friends, old enemies and her own demons.”

Erskine returns for Season 2, along with Brenda Song, Darren Barnet, Masi Oka and Kenneth Branagh, with new characters voiced by Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster and Sherry Cola. Blue Spirit is once again serving as the animation studio for the series.

“London in 1657 had a thriving culture of illegal activity, which is very similar to our story of Japan,” Noizumi and Green told Tudum. “Mizu must overcome this dark darkness amidst a puritanical society that persecuted women as witches, closed bars and theaters, and even banned Christmas.

And, yes, they admitted that the wait for season 2 was very long.

“First of all, we want to thank our viewers for waiting. It is your passion that has fueled us and helped us get here,” said the couple. “Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was London or Edo Japan in the 17th century. The care that every member of our team poured into exploring these worlds, then making them brush by brush into amazing, moving art, is a miracle to us.”

Season 3, the series finale, is also coming soon.
