Millie has yet to see Douglas’s wife, Wendy, who he says is suffering from a mysterious illness that requires her to stay alone in her own room. Written from Millie’s point of view, this is how the book’s official synopsis describes it: “But I haven’t yet met Mrs. Garrick, or seen her inside the guest room. I’m sure I can hear her crying. I notice blood spots around the neck of her white nightgown when I’m doing the laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When she changes all in, i move slowly.
He continues, “That’s when I make a promise. After all, I’ve done this before. I can protect Mrs. Garrick while keeping my own secret locked away safe. Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He’s going to pay. It’s just a question of how far I’m willing to go…”
