Heather Gay revealed the real reason she left Mormonism, and told if she is considering marriage with her boyfriend Trip. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City the star also talked about how her teammates treated him.
In the new season, Heather revealed that she and Tripp started dating last year – nine years after their last fling. Throughout the show, Heather has been open about how she left Mormonism after divorcing her husband, Frank William “Billy” Gay III.
On the Two Percent podcast, Heather shared the real reason she left the church.
“What was hard for people to understand when I left the church was that it wasn’t like I wanted to drink or I wanted to sleep around or I wanted to be on Housewives and be famous,” she said. “I mean, I wanted to do all these things…”
“But the biggest thing I wanted to say publicly was, ‘I don’t align with this religion anymore,'” she explained. “And just saying that out in public or even to my children or my family would ruin my life.
In an interview with Us Magazine, Heather talked about whether she is considering marriage.
“I mean, my romantic heart does entertain every time I’m with Tripp, but I don’t think I’ll ever get married again,” she said. “I don’t want, and marriage hasn’t worked out for me, and I just don’t see it as something I need.”
“It was very important to me that I got… all the permission from my daughter. It was disappointing, as it was,” Heather said of their romance in general. “Therefore, [Georgia] I was hitting him, and I was saying, ‘Please be easy, don’t ask a question that I can’t get back, you know, help a girl out here!’ But this is the first time they’ve ever seen me with a man, so it made sense to give him the third grade.”
She said Georgia, her middle child, was “most difficult” at first.
“They are the closest now, I think of all the children,” said Heather. “He’s helping her move to LA, he’s putting all her furniture together, so they’ve come full circle.”
“[We] she definitely had to rebuild trust,” said Heather, referring to their first flight, when she caught a message from other women. “But I also went into it with, like, a lot less to lose now that it’s just me. … Being an empty nester created space… [to] throw caution to the wind and just love for love’s sake. … I just felt like, if it breaks my heart, it won’t affect my family. I will be straight, and I think I can get over that. “
Heather said Tripp was “worth the risk” – and shared how her co-stars handled him.
“I really felt like [my castmates] they were so cool to Tripp and kind and didn’t give me a hard time and even Lisa [Barlow] one time said, ‘I could go hard on you right now, but I’m not going to,'” Heather said. I felt a lot of support, and I felt like the friendship deepened. It was a fun season.”
