Review: “Klara And The Sun”, A Film About Companionship That Short

Download the movie as well sinister expressions of loss and love, ones that are deeply shocking and morally questioning, but that don’t really hit home. Perhaps a robot narrator trying to understand the concept of love doesn’t really allow the very human dynamics of loss, loneliness and trauma to have as much impact… I remember thinking, ‘oh wow that’s so frustrating’, but not hearing in my seat, or being actively shock Something just felt off.

That’s not to say there was no emotion in the film. Klara’s innocence and faith in the sun feels (ironically) real, and the relationship, or lack thereof, between Josie and Chrissy is something that hits home.

Unlike other Taika Waititi films, the humor felt contrived and overly choreographed. Caricatured genetically modified rich kids and a clumsy slapstick robot walking into a stairwell didn’t do it for me, I’m afraid.

Clara and the sun he was clean and neat; it raised serious questions about ethics, but these were often left unaddressed or debated. For a story about the relationship between a semi-synthesized human species and a naive synthetic robot, it lacked humor. For a film about the strained relationship between a mother and daughter, there was no emotion. For a movie set in a futuristic post-internet society, it wasn’t that exciting.

Clara and the sun comes out in UK cinemas 23 October 2026.
