Max Chmerkovsky does not understand Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inabacriticize his sister-in-law, Jenna Johnsonamidst their tense back-and-forth build.
“She goes and starts reading the rule book, but then that same rule book that’s appropriate in a ballroom with lifts only applies to couples dancing,” Chmerkovskiy, 46, said on the Thursday, October 15, episode of the “Viall Files” podcast.. “You’re not talking about extra backup dancers running out.”
Johnson, 32, and a celebrity partner Harry Shum Jr. performed a high-energy samba on Tuesday, September 13 Super Bowl Night, where Inaba, 58, scored points on an illegal lift. (Although dancers aren’t allowed to take both feet off the ground in traditional samba, two dancers helped Shum’s group, 44, make a standard centerpiece.)
“There’s no ‘three other people’ in the rulebook. Point is: Carrie Ann, get some consistency,” Chmerkovskiy said. “A lift is a lift if a partner lifts his partner. … if you’re going to be [the] the group ran out and threw someone in the air, that’s not a lift. That is Dancing With The Stars creative direction, and you should complain to the creative director.”
Chmerkovsky’s wife, Free map of Murgatroydalso approved by her husband. (Max’s brother, Val Chmerkovsky has been married to Johnson since 2019.)
“When I heard what she said about nobody being able to raise the man, I agreed with Jenna in the truth, like, ‘Oh, so even if it’s not me, it can’t be raised either,'” Murgatroyd, 40, said in Thursday’s episode. “I think that might have been confusing for me too.”

After Inaba’s criticism, Johnson quickly asked if the move was a lift. Maks, for his part, felt that his sister-in-law’s opinion was one of a “consummate professional”. Despite this, Maks agreed with Inaba about the lack of samba skills on display in practice.
“[She felt the] there wasn’t enough samba content, and I agree,” he said. “They gave too much of a nod [Usher’s type] movement and the quality of movement, which is Harry’s card. … But samba didn’t play out, and I think that’s where Carrie Ann should have ended. To give him a build position, come on? Then, give him 7, take the points [or] something Why did you bring this up if you are not going to do anything about it? That’s my problem.”
Johnson has because he spoke to Inabaclarifying that she respects the opinions of the judges.
“I hear Carrie Ann. She’s a judge for a reason,” Johnson said In addition after Tuesday’s program. “She’ll do her job, I’ll do my job. I’ll get feedback.”
