The Selma Blair Team Says ‘There’s So Much More’ to Flight Arrest

Selma Blairteam is breaking the silence after the actress’ flight to New York ended with a seizure and a visit to a hospital. Her spokesperson says the medical emergency has been overshadowed by speculation, and is pushing back against allegations that the “Cruel Intentions” star tried to open the plane’s door. The statement comes after Blair pleaded not guilty to two assault charges. Her team are now asking the public to hear more of her story before passing judgement.

In a statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Blair’s spokesperson challenged the coverage of the Oct. 11 incident. “Since Sunday night, the public account of what happened to Selma aboard a flight to New York has been built almost entirely on a police report and a ten-year-old headline,” the spokesman said.

Blair was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport after an alleged altercation with crew members aboard a Delta Airlines flight. She was then taken to hospital. Her representative thanked journalists who had looked beyond the original allegations. “A handful of journalists have taken the time to report on Selma as a person rather than a headline, and we are grateful,” the statement continued.

“But fair reporting has been the exception, and in the space left by our silence, speculation has hardened into something treated as fact. We can, however, set the record straight on a few points that are already in public circulation. Selma Blair experienced a medical emergency on the plane. No attempt was made to open the plane’s door. Selma did not intend to harm anyone being.”

Blair is still expected to attend Con

The arrest has also drawn new attention to Blair’s 2016 flight incident, when she publicly apologized after causing a disturbance and being removed from a plane in Los Angeles following a trip to Cancun. Her spokesperson’s latest statement directly challenged him to rely on that older program when discussing what happened this month.

“There is much more to this story than has been reported, and we want to consider all the facts before we pass judgment, whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion,” they said.

Meanwhile, Blair’s next scheduled public appearance is still on the calendar. According to PEOPLE, she is still expected to attend 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, which runs October 16 through October 18.
