Kim Kardashian has opened up about her approach to raising her 13-year-old daughter, Northwestas she grew up in the public eye with a career in the music industry.
The 45-year-old admitted in a recent interview that she often has to “hold back” her ambitious teenage daughter, who has already built a net worth in the tens of millions.
Kim Kardashian also addressed her co-parenting with an ex Kanye Westsaying that they have a “better” relationship in that regard and that they have improved their communication when it comes to their children.

North has been particularly keen on appearing in the public eye, but Kim has made a conscious effort to limit the 13-year-old’s public exposure.
In her new interview with The Sunday Timesshe briefly explained how North is different from the rest of her children in terms of dealing with the family’s reputation and public image.
“My little ones come around when I’m filming, but they don’t really make up stories,” Kim said, adding that “North likes it a little more than the rest. I hold her back.”
Kim explained about the restrictions she is putting on the North. She said, “She only wants projects that are in front of us. And so, it’s like we’re really trying to enjoy those moments and not do everything that comes our way.”
The SKIMS founder is serious about managing her children’s public presence “the right way,” especially for North, whose career is growing in music.

Kim’s parenting of her daughter North has often faced public scrutiny on social media and in other press reports.
In August 2025, North released a dermal finger piercing, which caused an uproar as people worried about the potential risks of such a body modification.
Lulu Ave, a piercing company, reportedly noted the dangers of such piercings, noting that they “may not heal well due to constant hand use and the risk of the jewelry being chipped or bumped.”
Much of the uproar was directed at Kim’s parenting. according to Universewrote one online critic, “This is what happens when you have to be your child’s best friend and not a reasonable adult.”
Another wrote, “Well, as I’m sure many know, one of the narcissist’s mother’s greatest dangers is her daughter.”
As reported by AND! news, North later addressed the online statement in a video she posted on her TikTok account, lip-syncing to “Why are you crying?” an audio clip she captioned “this is for all the people who are mad about finger piercings.”
The Rise of North in the Music Industry
North, who is 13 years old, has been growing in the industry since she started her music career.
She released her debut EP, “N0rth4evr” earlier this year and has since appeared on the cover of Dazed magazine illustrated by acclaimed filmmaker Gus Van Sant.
In her interview with the publication’s head of fashion, Marios Mystidis, North made her desire and love for the limelight clear.
She said she “exercised every day,” and noted that someone telling her to start her career when she was older was the “worst piece of advice” she ever received.
“It’s like, nah, this is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I want to do with my life,” explained the teenager, per. complex.

North, in it Dazed in the interview, she also noted that she was completely focused on her music career and was not interested in typical teenage concerns.

The teenager also revealed the restriction her parents put on her when it came to piercing her body.
“I really want to get my bridge pierced, but I’m not allowed,” she said, adding that she loves the practice because, “They just make you yourself.”

Kim and Kanye have previously clashed over their approach to promoting North while she builds her music career.
They previously fought against Kanye including their daughter on a track featuring Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, who was facing a sex abuse lawsuit at the time.
Kanye had also accused Kim of encouraging inappropriate behavior in the North and even threatened legal action against his ex-wife, according to Express Tribune.
However, in her latest interview, Kim said she is better at communicating effectively with the 49-year-old rapper when it comes to North’s music.
“And with her, because it’s more related to music, that’s something her dad and I communicate better about,” Kim said.
She said that they ensure that they are “aligned” and that North is only allowed to participate in projects that they both agree to.
