It’s been a long 36 years since Billy the Kid rode the big screen with the Governors, but wouldn’t you know it, you can’t gang of Young guns down forever. Rumors have swirled for what feels like decades about a third installment, but now, Kiefer Sutherland has provided perhaps the most exciting update yet. Sutherland recently reunited with his co-star Lou Diamond Phillips for a Young guns panel at FanX Salt Lake, moderated by Collider’s Maggie Lovittwhere chatter turned to the long-awaited third installment.
While Doc Scurlock from Sutherland encountered the small problem of being full of bullets in Young gun IIthe actor confirmed that he has discussed the project with Estevez, who apparently isn’t entirely convinced that Doc needs to stay dead. “He looked at me and said, ‘Well, nobody saw you die, kid.’ I held the world record for the number of squibs on a human being for three years, and I had 72 rounds fired at me,” said Sutherland. “And he said, ‘Well, maybe they didn’t finish [killing you].’ I said, ‘This conversation is over.’ But I promise you, the script is amazingand it will be with Lou and Emilio and a new team.”
Phillips suggested that too Christian Slaterwho joined the franchise as Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh in Young gun IIhe is expected to return. When the couple was asked if shooting could begin soon, Phillips said Estevez was currently working to get the project moving.

Earp is the reluctant authority figure, a man who came to town specifically to be left alone and somehow ends up being responsible for everything.
You are protective by instinct, so when something goes wrong your first thought is who is exposed rather than who is to blame.
These films understand that keeping order costs much more than breaking it, and that the person who keeps the line is almost never thanked.
You would do the whole thing over again, and you would complain about it all the time.

No one ever talked you into something you had already decided was right, and a long line of adults have found that out the hard way.
Mattie is the most persistent character in the Western canon and she manages it through argument, paperwork and flat refusal rather than quick draw.

True Grit is the rare western where the moral center is the youngest person on screen and all the adults around her have to catch up.
You get what you come for, and the film is honest about what that takes out of you.
What do we know about ‘Young Guns 3’?
The sequel has been in development under the title Young Guns 3: Dead or Alivewith Estevez attached to reprise Billy the Kid and direct it. original Young guns a writer John Fusco has also been involved in the project. It is reassuring that there is a script out there that has the Sutherland stamp of approval. The origin Young guns was released in 1988 and starred Estevez, Sutherland and Phillips Charles Jane, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko as members of the Governors. Young gun II followed in 1990, with Slater joining the collective.
