It’s been about two weeks since our last update on Perez, and we wanted to share a little about where things stand.
First, we want to thank our longtime friend Perez Tom D’Angora again to set up the GoFundMe to help Perez’s mother continue to care for his three children during this time. We also want to thank everyone who donated, sent messages, and continued to send good wishes. Perez’s mother has been incredibly touched and honestly overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. It means so much to her and the children.
As for Perez, he remains in residential treatment, where the focus remains on his mental health and recovery.
We are very happy to share that over the past few weeks, Perez has been able to reconnect with his children and his mother.
They were able to spend time together initially through several video calls, and since then, Perez has also been able to see his children and mother several times for short, supervised visits at the facility.
Seeing his children in person has meant a lot to Perez. There have certainly been a lot of emotions for everyone, but being able to spend that time together has been incredibly meaningful and healing.
Communication with Perez is still limited, and we cannot talk to him on a daily basis. Although that is difficult for us and for him, we understand that constant communication with the family is not the priority at this time, but giving him time and space to focus on his care and continue to make progress.
He continues to work with his care team to understand what led to his mental health crisis, recognizing warning signs, learning better ways to cope, and working through everything that led to this point.
At this time, we do not yet have a timeline for when Perez will leave residential treatment or when he can return home.
This is all still very new to us. We are listening to the doctors, psychiatrists, therapists, and everyone involved in his care, and trusting their guidance on what Perez needs and when he will be ready for each next step. No one wants to rush anything. For now, we are all taking things one day at a time.
We are grateful for the progress Perez has made so far, and especially grateful that he and his children were able to spend some time together again.
Thank you to everyone who has continued to check in, send kind messages, and keep Perez and his children in your thoughts and prayers.
