Katie and Charlotte from The Amazing Race respond to Metro Mishap

Sisters Katie and Charlotte Schultz it was hard to look back on their metro accident in Madrid which led to their elimination The Amazing Race.

“That was really hard to watch,” Charlotte, 20, said exclusively Us on Friday, October 2. “Leaving the tomatoes [road block]we were both so angry.”

Charlotte said she and Katie, 26, were “not that far behind” Jody Rebhun and Jenn Naso in the race, but being close to the back of the pack added pressure.

“The mentality of being last, like the real shocker, and we weren’t ready for that,” she continued. “We were so happy to go anywhere. We were like, ‘Let’s just get on the metro, go in some direction.'”

During Thursday’s episode, October 1, Katie and Charlotte made a major navigational error. Racers were asked to get to Puerta del Sol via the metro. However, the train had a Puerta del Sur stop in the opposite direction.

Several teams initially made the same mistake as Katie and Charlotte, but the sisters didn’t realize their mistake until it was too late. Katie and Charlotte ended up being “nearly an hour” behind the other teams.

“It seems like a lot of other teams made that mistake a little bit, but then on the metro they were like, ‘Double check,’ and they made that smart move and double checked and came back,” explained Charlotte. “We didn’t do that. We got on the metro, and we were just under pressure. We were just like we were outside. It was terrible.”

Katie said, “It looks like a lot of teams got lost in Madrid, whether on the metro or on the roads. It was a very difficult city to navigate, especially if you don’t speak Spanish. So that made us feel better. I mean, it doesn’t really help, but it’s a little bit better.”

At one point in the show, Charlotte asked Katie if Puerta del Sur and Puerta del Sol were the same, but neither of them double-checked their opinion due to exhaustion.

We’re like, ‘Okay, we have hope. Someone else is out here. Someone else must have struggled like we did because somehow someone is still here.’ But we went, and looked at the tables. We understood it, and Dafina and Saran left. How they did their last inspection. They were out there, so most of the day we were alone. “
