Chris Rock he had the means and the opportunity to help a friend’s brother and he didn’t. The comedian recently opened up to ‘The New York Times’ about that time in his personal life. At the time, Rock had a strict rule against funding lawyers. Later, he learned that the friend’s brother was innocent and spent about 17 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit. Now, with the story out there, social media users are falling strong reactions to the comedian’s inaction and willingness to admit it all in later years.

Chris Rock explains why he didn’t help his friend’s brother
Rock, on the one hand, appears to be on a media tour for his new movie, ‘Misty Green.’ At one point in the interview, they talked about canceling culture, forgiveness and wrongful accusations against black people. He then told the story of Roger Logan, a friend’s brother who was locked up for murder. Logan’s brother, according to Chris, again asked for help with a lawyer. Chris refused, fearing the open costs of legal fees. A mortgage or education that he would support, but a lawyer was difficult.
Now, years later, his decision not to help bothers him at times. Meanwhile, Logan settled separately with New York City and the state for a total of more than $6 million, according to the New York Times.
“And he’s still with me. I had a way to help him, and I didn’t,” said Chris. “I don’t know if we could get it out or not, but still. That’s all to say, I’m Black, Black men are accused of what they didn’t do all the time, every day. We let the Black men out of jail and we go: “Whoops! That Black guy just did 30 years – too bad.'”
Additionally, he opened up about his experience in the Bed-Stuy police row. It is unclear if Chris Rock is still friends with Logan’s brother or in contact with Logan himself.
Social media responds to Rock’s story
Chris’s comments about Logan came amid that larger conversation about wrongful accusations and erasure of culture. However, netizens had plenty to say about how he held on to his medals when a friend’s family needed him. Over on Threads, comments ranged from comments calling for checking the pockets of rich celebrities to throwing shade at Chris Rock for not doing more for himself. A few also commented on Will Smith’s Oscars slap and how he should have hit the comedian harder. Story!
