Carson Kressley looking back on sharing a precious moment with the late Dolly Parton.
Appearing on the program Thursday, October 8 of Watch What Happens Live with Andy CohenKressley, 56, was asked what it was like presenting an award with the iconic singer at CMT’s Flameworthy Awards in 2004.
“I’ve never met her before,” Kressley replied, adding, “I think Queer Eye at the top, they invited me to the CMT Flameworthy Awards which are so random and I was wearing a Western.”
Kressley recalled that he chose to wear the themed outfit on stage as a “homage to Dolly” and went on to praise the “Jolene” singer.
“Then they brought her in and you know, just the most genuine, angelic and immediately we connected and had a great chat and hung out and she was… it wasn’t a quick meet and greet and go,” he said. “We got to hang out and I was so nervous doing that thing with her on stage. And I think I nailed it, because you know, it’s Dolly. She was amazing.”
Kressley comments on it WWHL comes after the TV personality paid tribute to Parton, who died in August, by sharing a selfie taken on the night of the awards via his Instagram.
“I should have posted this yesterday on 9/25 – Dolly Day. Missed her but glad I got to know her!” Kressley wrote on September 26.
He said “Sorry it’s blurry, it’s been in a frame for 20 years and I didn’t want to take it out for fear of ruining it – it’s a Polaroid from the first time we met in 2004 I think.
On August 25, news broke that the “I Will Always Love You” singer had died at age 80 after a brief battle with an undisclosed type of cancer.
“Global icon and humanitarian Dolly Parton, known to the world as a singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright and author, passed away peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee,” read a statement from Parton’s representative at the time. “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever be an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also with the wit, warmth and kindness that made us all feel like family.”
