Thompson, 61, took to Instagram on Saturday to express his gratitude for all the messages and love he’s received over the past month.

“I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers and well wishes I have received over the past few weeks. Every message, text and kind thought has meant more to me than you know,” he wrote in his IG post. “Although I couldn’t respond to everyone individually, please know that I have felt your love and appreciation for each of you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being there for me during this time. It truly means the world to me!”

Many took to the comments to share kinder sentiments with the comedian.

“The world is too dark to be without him,” one fan wrote. Another said, “All I’ve seen online about you lately is people love you. Please know the world has your back!” Comedian Howie Mandel shared a simple, “Love you buddy,” while actor and comedian Brad Garrett said, “We love you! Welcome back!!”

Jami Schlicher, the producer of Carrot Top, released a statement while he was recovering in the hospital.

“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and receiving the care and support he needs,” Schlicher said. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for their concern, prayers, and respectfully request privacy.”

According to Page Six, Ronnie Bitman, Thompson’s attorney, said in court filings that the attempted suicide occurred after musician Brian Evans allegedly demanded $500,000 as a result of a rumored USB with an incriminating video featuring the comedian.

Evans denied this statement according to TMZ, saying he “never threatened to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement.” He said “The video they are talking about – as I made clear – was deleted a long time ago according to the previous situation.”

Evans also told TMZ that he’s “sorry that Scott did something to hurt himself” and that he “doesn’t think Scott is a bad person,” adding that “he made some decisions that weren’t good. That’s no reason to hurt himself.”

In an exclusive interview with The Blast in early 2025, Thompson talked about working in comedy for 40 years and calling the Luxor in Las Vegas home for 19 years at that time (20 now).

“It’s just amazing to me, I even find it strange when I think about the first time I went on stage and tried to make a joke and 40 years later, I’m still doing it in Vegas and it’s amazing,” he told The Blast. “I think that’s why I think this part of the journey is probably the most fun because you accept it, stand back and think, God, take it in for a second.”

Forty years is a great comedy, and Thomson has worked hard to keep the show growing and changing over the years. Advances in technology have helped improve the display. Years ago, the video wall behind Carrot Top showed how he plays his logo, but now, he uses the wall as a visual aid and reference rather than just holding up a prop during a joke.

“I’ll put pressure on the screen behind me, and it will come up so they can get the joke without me going through the whole process of making it and building it,” he told The Blast. “There’s stand-up, a visual video wall, props, tons and tons of music, lights, strobe lights, smoke, snow, I mean, I’ve known from day one that I didn’t want to be a stand-up comic. I want to be something different.
