Boston Blue had kept viewers on the edge of their seats as to whether Brian was alive or dead – and now Us has the answer.
In Us‘ exclusive clip from the premiere of season 2, which will be broadcast on Friday, October 9, Lena (Sonequa Martin-green) visits her boyfriend Brian Rodgers’ (Ryan Broussard) apartment, where it seems to be fixed.
Lena noticed that Brian slept on the bed, prompting him to reply, “There’s more space out here. If I can see the sky, [I] can control their anxiety.”
While Brian is still struggling with the aftermath of his accident, Lena reveals that she “found the blue truck” that ran him off the road.
“I’m a cop, Lee. It kills me not to be out there and find the person who did this to me,” he told Lena. “You were in a wheelchair three months ago and now you’re out there looking like a whole new woman, and you want me to slow down?”
The first scene ends with the couple in a sweet spot after they lean on each other emotionally while dealing with health concerns. Lena had previously been seriously injured in the field, and Brian’s car fell into the ocean – still in it – after an accident.
“There’s a little bit of time when we come into the season, which we’ll take away from the medical leave that Lena is facing to recover from her injuries,” said showrunner Brandon Sonnier in a joint interview with executive producer Brandon Margolis. “It also pushes us a little bit further down the road about who was driving the car, what the trigger was for that incident and we find out what happened right after that.”
He said: “That’s going to be a major driver in Lena and Danny’s life – and the rest of the Reagans and the Silvers. They want to get to the bottom of what that was about and who was behind it. We find that person at some point, and we find out that there’s something bigger going on and it’s a boost to the season.”
Margolis noted that the many roadblocks thrown at Lena will be addressed in season 2, saying, “We love opportunities for her and Danny to grow closer because of that.
Martin-Green, 41, also spoke to him Us about her response to the announcement.
“I was relieved. We all were. There was a hot second where we didn’t know exactly what was going to happen and then we were all relieved very quickly,” she recalled before the Season 2 premiere. “It’s good because Ryan was also excited that he was going to live with us. We have a tight family show going on, and that was great news.”
Boston Blue returns to CBS Friday, October 9, at 10pm ET before airing the following day on Paramount+.
