Bob Dylan roasted for his appearance during Pope Leo’s visit

Bob Dylanan unexpected meeting Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican has drawn more attention to the importance of the event.

The reunion comes as Dylan’s name appears again in another conversation involving fellow music legend Paul McCartney, who recently admitted that he is still too nervous to call the singer despite wanting to collaborate with him.

Meanwhile, Pope Leo’s recent health announcement has also attracted attention, following reports that doctors found a local nodule in his lung and recommended its removal.

Bob Dylan meets Pope Leo XIV in an unexpected meeting

Dylan was received by Pope Leo XIV at the Apostolic Palace on Wednesday, November 4, while the musician was in Italy for his “Rough and Rowdy Ways” tour.

The 85-year-old singer-songwriter arrived at the Apostolic Palace wearing a black hooded t-shirt, with the hood pulled over his head. Images released by the Vatican showed him standing next to the pope, creating a striking contrast between the pontiff’s traditional white cassock and Dylan’s all-black look.

The meeting was brief, with the two men exchanging greetings and a few lighthearted comments. The pope gave Dylan a rosary, and the singer gave him a copy of his autobiography, “Chronicles: Volume One,” according to Vatican News.

The event was particularly interesting because Pope Leo had previously mentioned Dylan’s work in the introduction to a book on disarmament titled “Disarmed and Disarming: Peace Is a Gift.” Released in July 2026, it featured lyrics from Dylan’s 1963 anti-nuclear protest song, “Go Away You Bomb.”

The song was never officially recorded or released on record, making the pope’s reference an unusual nod to a lesser-known part of the musician’s catalog.

Fans compare Bob Dylan to ‘Emperor Palpatine’ and joke about his looks

Although the meeting had an interesting historical and musical connection, social media users were fascinated by Dylan’s appearance in the photos. “Why is he directing ‘Emperor Palpatine’?” asked a user.

Some users also found the combination of his clothes and the formal setting amusing, with the images prompting jokes about the musician’s appearance he was giving the pope.

One user commented in detail, writing, “I find something rather typical of Dylan about the whole affair: even when he gets an audience with the Pope, he manages to look as if he has just arrived to deliver a secret parcel.”

The jokes didn’t stop there. Another social media user described what happened with the comment, “The Pope is meeting Judas.

Some, however, thought the band was disrespectful to His Holiness. “Hey Dylan, you don’t show up like that to visit your Pope. Your head shouldn’t be covered with hats or hoods. Such respect,” said one fan.

Dylan’s appearance at the Vatican also comes as another music legend recently opened up about his admiration for the singer.

The storyteller Paul McCartney talked about a possible collaboration with Dylan, despite the history of meeting over the years. The former Beatles member was asked which musician he would still like to work with.

“I’ll ask [who I want to collaborate with]and I always think Bob Dylan. But I’m too nervous to call him,” McCartney admitted, according to The Blast.

He even joked about how he might introduce himself if he ever called, thinking of saying, “Bob? It’s Paul.”

Away from the unusual meeting with Dylan, Pope Leo XIV has also been leading a health concern that attracted attention in October.

As reported by The Blast, the 71-year-old pontiff revealed that doctors had found a localized nodule in his lung during medical examinations.

He shared the news while speaking to pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on October 11, explaining that doctors had found the growth early and recommended its removal.

“Recently, during some medical examinations, doctors found a local nodule in my lung,” he said.

The pope reportedly accepted the medical proposal, with the procedure expected to require about a week of recovery. The growth was later determined to be cancerous.

Pope Leo has also encouraged public engagement with discussions about technology, particularly the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

Earlier in September, the pontiff had urged world leaders to be concerned about AI, pushing back against the idea that warnings about the potential dangers of the technology should be dismissed.

Speaking to journalists, Leo emphasized that ignoring the concerns of experts would not be a responsible approach to technological progress.

“We can’t just sit back and pretend nothing is going to happen,” he said. He also clarified that he was not panicking about AI but he believed that the warnings raised by experts deserved attention.
