Ben Affleck he pointed out a great resemblance between his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and his Animals costar Kerry Washington.
“You and Jen Garner, by the way — talk about kindred spirits. You two — the only ones I know who regularly bake for the crew,” Affleck, 54, said on a recent episode of the Washington podcast “Street You Grew Up On.”
The actor joked that Garner, 54, and Washington’s kindness was taking a toll on him, saying, “This is the category of people who make you feel like an ass no matter how hard you try. Because Kerry and Jen always make you one step better than everyone else.”
Affleck said it was difficult for him to bring the same energy on set.
“I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m getting something, like a wrapped gift for them [crew],’ and they’re like, ‘Did you get Kerry’s donuts today? Tomorrow she’s making Halloween muffins,'” he recalled before describing what Washington does as “amazing” and “a gift.”
Affleck and Washington, 49, play husband and wife in Netflix’s Animalswhich he also wrote and directed. The post of Washington was originally supposed to go to Garner, with Matt Damon playing Affleck’s character.
“I thought, ‘God, Jen Garner would be amazing for this role,'” Affleck told Entertainment Weekly in September. “It also has an added benefit, like we both get to see our kids more because we do week-to-week and back-and-forth. I thought, ‘Well, we can coordinate our schedules around it.'”
Affleck said, “She can bring something interesting to you that she doesn’t have [done]that I know she can do it, I don’t think she had a chance to do it in one movie. “
Animals It was briefly put on hold before Affleck returned to the project. Damon, 55, was ultimately unavailable due to his commitment The Odysseyand so Affleck took over the lead role.

“I talked to Jen, and she said, ‘We don’t want to do that. You’re just getting baggage,'” he said of the decision for them not to play husbands on screen.
Affleck did not rule out reuniting with Garner on another project in the future, saying, “I would love to work with her, really. She’s great, and we’re good friends, and I’m very grateful to her, and we have a good thing.”
He concluded: “I would still like to work with her in the future, but what you don’t want to do is bring the audience’s baggage and it works against you, you know?”
Animals hit Netflix October 9.
