Before ‘Jumanji,’ Dwayne Johnson’s Wild Adventure Film officially hits Prime Video

There was a time when Dwayne Johnson still trying to convince Hollywood that he could be more than just the wrestling superstar who liked to raise his eyebrows at people, and one of his main roles remains among his most interesting. Very early in his career as a leading man, Johnson ventured into the jungle for an adventure that included a treasure hunt Indiana Jones with the unlikely buddy comedy A deadly weapon.

That movie The Rundownfrom the prolific executive director Peter Bergwhich is available on Main video. The film follows Beck, a negotiator and problem solver. He’s not just looking for trouble, but trouble is what he needs to get rid of and there’s one last lie he needs to get out before he can leave it all behind. At the heart of his current predicament is a smart-ass named Travis, a fast-talking double dealer whose father has commissioned Beck to recover from an adventure in Brazil.

Travis proves to be more of a handful than Beck expected, not only because of his mouth and his unwillingness to leave, but because of a couple of other problems he brings with him: Mariana, an unconscious local who has the answers to some of the hidden secrets of the jungle, and Hatcher, a Colonel Kurtz type who turned his own fortune into gold mining and its inhabitants.

The team is led by Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Beck, beside Old William Scott (An American piece) as Travis Walker, Rosario Dawson (Achsoka) as Mariana, Christopher Walker (break up) as Cornelius Hatcher, Evan Bremner (Finding a train) as Declan and John Gries (Dynamite Napoleon) as Harvey.

Trapped olive channel

Rambo
The original 1982 album
You don’t have to wonder if he has your back. You’ll just know.

Your partner doesn’t talk much, he doesn’t need to, and he’ll have counted all the threats around you before you finish your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics. It is a force shaped by survival, loyalty and endurance that no amount of training alone can produce. He does not leave people behind. What you get is the quietest partner imaginable, someone who has gone through what would have broken anyone else and decided to keep going.
Why is he your partner

  • He reads the ground like other people read a room.
  • It will stand between you and the worst person without talking about it.
  • He says almost nothing, and he is never wrong.

From the Collider file

  • The original 1982 version came from David Morrell’s 1972 novel, which ends very differently.
  • Stallone cut most of his own dialogue in the edit so that the character was almost silent.
  • Five films over thirty-seven years, from 1982 to the fifth in 2019.

James Bond
Doctor No, 1962
He has lived in things no business has lived, and he does it with style.

Your partner arrives perfectly dressed, well-informed, and with a cover story convincing enough that you need a moment to remember what’s real. Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he walks into and the most attractive, which is the whole point. It works in layers, where nothing is as it seems and every advantage is used without apology. You will never be bored. You get angry from time to time.
Why is he your partner

  • It’s better in the room than it is on paper, and it’s excellent on paper.
  • He will not explain the plan, and the plan will work.
  • He treats charm like a tool, and it’s a very effective one.

From the Collider file

  • Eon has made twenty-five Bond films since Dr. Or in 1962, over six actors.
  • Denis Villeneuve is directing the next one for Amazon MGM, who took creative control in 2025.
  • The search for the new 007 was still ongoing through 2026, with screen tests ongoing.

Indiana Jones
Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1981
A scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual and very effective pair.

Your partner knows the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why what everyone else is ignoring is the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless and sometimes impossible, and also one of the most useful people you could have by your side. He hates snakes and will be attached to objects of historical importance, both of which will last you at least once. It won’t matter.
Why is he your partner

  • He has read what no one else thought to read.
  • He’ll risk the whole plan for the artifact, and he’ll be right about half the time.
  • He prepares better than most.

From the Collider file

  • The Cairo swordsman scene was improvised on the day because Harrison Ford had dysentery.
  • Raiders was filmed in about 73 days, which was fast even in 1981.
  • Dial of Destiny in 2023 was the fifth and last time for Ford, at the age of eighty.

John Johnson
Hardly, 1988
His superpower is hostility and his contingency plan is improvisation.

Your partner wasn’t supposed to be here. He doesn’t have the right equipment, the right information, or anything resembling the right opportunities. He has a bitter attitude and refuses to accept that the situation is as bad as it clearly is. John McClane is the unsung hero of action cinema, a man with an ability to absorb more than anyone should and carry on in a way that would be frightening if not so useful. He complains all the time. It will come through.
Why is he your partner

  • He turns anything in the room to his advantage.
  • It’s funnier when things are at their worst.
  • He never agrees that it’s over.

From the Collider file

  • Die Hard was based on Ruairidh Thorpe’s novel, Nothing Lasts Forever, a sequel to a book filmed in 1968.
  • Nakatomi Plaza is Fox Plaza, which was the headquarters of the studio itself at the time.
  • Bruce Willis was a television comedy actor then, and way down the cast list.

Ethan Hunt
Mission: Impossible, 1996
The mission will be impossible. It will end anyway.

Your partner has run seventeen scenarios before you ended the meeting, and the one he settled on includes at least two things that shouldn’t be physically possible. Ethan Hunt works at the outer edge of human ability, technically and physically, and brings the same unwavering determination to protecting his partners that he brings to taking down groups that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and will never tell you everything. At least he can take the weight.
Why is he your partner

  • He takes the risk himself rather than assigning it.
  • It’s three moves ahead and won’t say which three.
  • It treats your survival as the ultimate goal.

From the Collider file

  • Cruiser dangled off the side of an Airbus A400M at a thousand feet for the opening of Rogue Nation.
  • The HALO jump in Fallout 106 took hold, filmed at dusk for the light.
  • The Final Countdown in 2025 was the eighth film, and was sold as the last.

Was the Rundown a success?

Despite its reputation as one of Johnson’s most enjoyable early action films, while still at the height of his WWE fame, The Rundown It was not a particular dramatic success. He earned approx $80.9 million worldwide against reporting Production budget $85 million. Two things: first, that’s a flop, and second, that’s a pretty big budget for a relatively unproven action star at that point in his career.

Critics and audiences were largely on the same page, however, as it is now Critics score 69% on Rotten Tomatoesnext to a Audience score 66%.. Much of the praise focused on Johnson’s endless source of charisma, his chemistry with Scott and the film’s gripping action sequences.

The Rundown available through Main videowith subscription or rental access depending on the viewer’s region.
