A father kills the man for deliberately dating the mother of his child

An Indiana father has been charged with fatally shooting a man he believed was dating the mother of his child.

Jaymon Trey Gilreath was arrested on Thursday, October 8, and charged with one count of murder in the death of Mr. Noah Slinkard.

The Bloomington Police Department announced in a news release that officers responded to a residence around 8:15 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, first responders found Slinkard, 24, on the front porch of an apartment with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head. Paramedics then transported him to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just an hour later at 9:49 p.m.

Several callers reported the shooting and told 911 dispatchers that the suspect was walking east on West 13th Street after the shooting.

A Kentucky man is charged with murder after being found responsible for a shooting he said was an accident. The Jeffersontown Police Department said officers were called to an apartment on Fir Trail in Louisville around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in response to a reported shooting, according to WDRB. […]

As officers began searching for the suspect, Gilreath, 23, called 911 and told dispatchers he had shot someone, according to an incident report seen by Indiana Public Media. Police officers later located Gilreath at 8:23 pm and he was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities also said that a handgun was found on Gilreath’s path, which they believe he used to shoot Slinkard.

The police department said Slinkard was sitting on the front porch with another man when Gilreath allegedly approached them on foot. That other man spoke to police about the incident and said he “saw Gilreath pull a handgun from his waistband and then shoot the victim in the head before turning and walking away.”

Authorities eventually identified a possible motive for the shooting during the investigation while speaking with witnesses.

“Officers spoke with several witnesses and others who were present who told the officers that Gilreath believed the victim was having an affair with Gilreath’s ex-girlfriend,” the police department said in the press release.

Gilreath also spoke to investigators, reportedly saying he had a “gut feeling” that the mother of his child was cheating on him with Slinkard, according to court documents viewed by WTHR. Gilreath said he and the woman had planned to spend time together earlier in the day, although he became suspicious when she did not respond to his calls or texts.

Defendant said he saw her truck parked outside her mother’s house before he saw Slinkard on the porch.

Gilreath had passed the residence with friends, and he would have told the friends that he was going to fight with Slinkard when he got out of the vehicle. “If you hear a pop, go,” he allegedly warned his friends, according to WTHR.

Gilreath reportedly told police he did not remember the shooting, although he did remember holding a gun when he left the residence. He said that was when he realized he had shot Slinkard.

The investigators received surveillance photos from the area, which reportedly showed the shooting as well as Gilreath leaving the scene.

Gilreath was taken into custody at the Monroe County Jail and is currently being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for a bond review hearing on October 27, while his pre-trial conference will be held on November 18.

It is unclear at this time whether Gilreath has retained legal counsel or entered a plea following his arrest.
