“Stepping into the role of Artistic Director for this 28th edition feels like coming home to a city that simply refuses to be ignored or categorized,” said artistic director Brandon Harris in a statement. “After a year away, we knew we couldn’t just come back with an ordinary program; we had to come back with a slate that urgently speaks to our broken gift. I’ve programmed this year’s festival to reflect the independent spirit of independent cinema, looking for films that have a distinctive southern grit, a formal sound, and a unique eye for today’s world.”
