He died of cardiopulmonary arrest, with hypertension listed as the underlying cause, according to a death certificate obtained by People. Contributing conditions included Class II obesity and obstructive sleep apnea.

The GoFundMe set up to help his loved ones said he “passed away suddenly but peacefully in his sleep” on Friday, October 30th in Los Angeles.
He was in the area “working remotely.”
“Perhaps the sun has set too soon for our magic Matthewbut his memory lives on in the vivid colors of the sky. He would like everyone to remember his most important rule of life – don’t forget to set a course,” the GoFundMe said.
“If so Matthew who always made you smile, said an encouraging word just when you needed it, or ordered too much food for the whole table to enjoy, now is the time to repay the favor. Please donate as much as you can and share this with anyone who has been in the orbit of Matt’s big heart. And when you’re at dinner and you see the sunset, know that Matthew looking down, loving you, but disappointed with what you ordered,” they wrote.
