Celebrity trips looking for they may start out as harmless banter backstage, but some musicians have discovered that the laughter can come with unexpected consequences.
Taylor Swift she recently reminded fans of that fact when she revisited a trick involving a country singer Brad Paisley it reportedly left her struggling to sleep for months.
Her confession proves that life on the road isn’t always glamorous, and she’s far from the only famous musician to be taken by another musician.
From strange creatures appearing on stage to rotten food hidden inside tour buses and elaborate hoaxes, these eight celebrity tour acts went viral for reasons their targets probably didn’t expect.
1. Brad Paisley filled Taylor Swift’s Tour Bus with thousands of crickets
Taylor Swift’s final trip down memory lane came when she entered the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on October 26, 2026.
The singer was introduced by Brad Paisley, who she accompanied on his Bonfires & Amplifiers Tour in 2007.
However, her acceptance speech took an unexpected turn when she jokingly suggested that their friendship had been strained for almost two decades.
“We’ve been broken up since 2007,” Swift joked before bringing up the incident that led to the falling out.
according to DifferentPaisley had packed its tour bus with thousands of live crickets.
It was no laughing matter for the young musician to constantly laugh at the insects.
“For months, I couldn’t sleep,” Swift recalled, adding that she even considered buying a newt to solve the problem.
Fortunately, the supposed calmness was only part of her fun speech. Swift praised Paisley’s introduction and they jokingly agreed to put the incident behind them.
2. Blake Shelton’s Tour Bus Became Untouchable After Brad Paisley
Taylor Swift was not the only victim of Paisley. Blake Shelton once became the victim of a very unpleasant prank after he secretly placed raw chicken Paisley inside an air cooler attached under a table in his tour bus.
What started as an odorless piece of meat gradually became a much bigger problem as the food was spoiled for several days on the road.
In an interview with The Boot in 2011, Paisley admitted that it was difficult for Shelton’s team to find the source of the smell because the hidden vessel appeared to be a normal air conditioner.
“You couldn’t get on the bus without throwing up,” Shelton recalled.
Paisley later expressed some regret about the scene, acknowledging that he had underestimated how unpleasant it would become.
By the time the musicians reunited for another tour, Shelton was already considering how to get them even.
3. Faith Hill’s revenge on Brooks & Dunn involved in customs scare
Country duo Brooks & Dunn have also developed a reputation for elaborate tour acts, including one involving Faith Hill and a mysterious discovery inside her bed.
The story began after Hill was involved in another player’s drinking water during a trip.
Kix Brooks decided to take revenge by buying a headless eel, which he and his crew put under the bed cover of Hill’s tour bus while traveling in Canada.
But the prank war didn’t end there. In a 2018 interview published on Brooks’ official website, he recalled being confronted by a customs officer on the return trip who said jewelry was missing and showed up ready to search it.
Brooks described the situation as another joke, recalling the officer who began putting on gloves as the supposed investigation became increasingly uncomfortable.
The series of events showed how quickly a backstage rivalry between touring musicians could escalate beyond a simple practical joke.
4. Jewel on Fake Arrest For Brad Paisley
Brad Paisley may have mastered the art of torturing his tour mates, but singer Jewel found a way to turn the tables on him.
During the last leg of their tour in 2008, Jewel and her team organized a big surprise after Paisley returned to Nashville aboard a private jet.
Instead of receiving the usual welcome, Paisley was met with flashing police lights and officers saying they had a warrant for his arrest.
As Great American Country reported at the time, the prank involved retired police officers playing along to the conflict on stage.
Paisley was even handcuffed when it happened. The Boot later said the charges were supposed to include “too many noodles”, a joke about his guitar.
The singer’s initial alarm turned to laughter when he realized what was happening.
After years of putting other musicians through embarrassing situations, Paisley had finally received a special dose of his own medicine.

5. Carrie Underwood surprised the audience with the big city
For musicians, having an audience turn against them at a concert can be an unforgettable experience.
Little Big Town briefly faced that nightmare while opening for Carrie Underwood on her 2008 Carnival Ride Tour.
Instead of breaking the group’s music directly, Underwood arranged for a message to appear on the center’s big screens when the band members introduced themselves.
The message simply reads “BOO.” According to the Taste of Country retrospective, audience members followed their lead and began building up the group.
At first Kimberly Schlapman thought the negative answer was true.
“That made me sweat!” she recalled after realizing she had been pranked.
The other members of the band eventually realized what was happening, but not before the joke had created some serious confusion.
6. Taylor Swift invaded Keith Urban’s stage dressed as KISS
Taylor Swift wasn’t always the target of tour pranks. Sometimes, she was the one who organized them.
While on tour with Keith Urban in 2009, Swift made a surprise appearance when she performed “Kiss a Girl”.
Instead of walking on stage casually, she and her band members dressed up like the rock group KISS, complete with elaborate face paint, wigs, and costumes.
The unexpected entrance transformed Urban’s country show into a fun rock-inspired spectacle.
According to The Boot, the prank took place at a concert in Kansas City, Missouri, and even featured participants dressed as Hershey’s Kisses.
Swift and her band continued to play while Urban tried to continue with the song.
Unlike the cricket event years before, this joke unfolded in full view of the audience, turning an ordinary concert moment into a memorable performance.
7. Dierks Bentley Filled The Companion Act Tour Bus With 480 Bears

A prank war between Dierks Bentley and country duo Miss Willie Brown started with something rather simple.
During the 2011 Jägermeister Country Tour, duo members Amanda Watkins and Kasey Buckley decided to cover Bentley’s girlfriend’s Jeep in plastic wrap.
The women knew Bentley had a reputation for mischief and wanted to strike first.
However, the singer responded with a much bigger practical joke.
According to The Boot, Bentley and his crew hid 480 beers throughout the duo’s tour bus, placing them in compartments, pockets, and even the toilet.
Bentley proudly described the incident online, wondering if his revenge should be considered a joke or a gift.
The two responded in an equally playful manner, acknowledging that there seemed to be bottles and cans everywhere they turned.
8. Alessia Cara hid inside a giant teddy bear to scare Coldplay
Coldplay learned not to trust everything they found backstage during their 2016 A Head Full of Dreams Tour.
Canadian singer Alessia Cara, who was opening for the band, decided to celebrate the end of her tour with an unexpected surprise.
She climbed inside a large stuffed teddy bear nestled among what appeared to be gifts waiting for the musicians.
When the members of Coldplay approached him and began to examine the items, Cara suddenly revealed herself.
As NME reported, the moment scared the group before everyone started laughing.
Cara later discussed the incident when it appeared in 2018 The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallonremembering how she hid inside the bear to abandon the band.
The stunt wasn’t quite as unpleasant as Swift’s bus full of crickets or Shelton’s chicken problem.
Nevertheless, it showed the creativity that touring musicians sometimes use to make their final performances memorable.
For Swift, the recent Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony provided an opportunity to laugh about a joke that had been going on for nearly 20 years.
For the other performers, these events remain a reminder that the biggest surprises on tour don’t always happen in front of the audience.
