Ava Dash remembered when she was not talking to her father, a music manager Damon Dashand she has previously faced his custody battle with her mother, a fashion designer Rachel Roy. The Next Gen NYC also shared a star when she decided to pay her own bills at the age of 16.
In the past, Ava has revealed that her relationship with Damon was up and down. But in a recent episode of the new season, Ava filmed a sweet scene with her mom Rachel before being interviewed at BravoCon.
On More Life by Carl RadkeAva talked when she wasn’t talking to her father.
“It was tough,” she said, via @vanderpodrecaps on Instagram. “And I have a younger sister who’s eight years younger than me, so I feel like she’s like my daughter. My parents were going through a custody battle over her. I was old out there.
She said, “[I made] make sure she goes to bed on time. How I helped my father train her because he was so stubborn that she was still in diapers. … I feel like that’s not really a normal thing. And so there were certain things where I felt like I was a rock when we weren’t at my mother’s.”
Carl asked if Ava was like “the lever” in the divorce.
“Yeah, exactly. And so when I turned like 16, 17, I was just like, ‘You know what? You deal, I’m out. I’m going to pay my own bills,'” she said. “You guys are leaving me out.”
“When my parents were getting a divorce, I was eight. I don’t know if this is a good thing, but I was so happy when they got a divorce,” she said. “They’re just not for each other. They’re not each other’s personalities, and they’d fight all the time. And I was in the middle. I didn’t want to see that anymore. I wanted them to break up. I like to want.”
Ava said she found a better place with her father when she started paying her own bills.
“And I think you see your parents as people … this is his first time in the world. Like my mother. They are doing their best,” she explained. “If I were in their shoes, I would have made the same choices, I have to accept it.”
