The trailer for the new film The Exorcist movie released!
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster released the first teaser trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs during the 2026 New York Comic Con on Friday (October 9).
Written, directed, and produced by Mike Flanaganrevival of the horror franchise stars Scarlett Johansson, Ejiofor Chiwetel, Diane Lane, Jacobi skirt, Sasha Calle, Scott McNairy, Gil Bellows, Laurence Fishburne and John Leguizamo.
What is The Exorcist: Martyrs about?
Here is the summary:
Thirteen years ago, New York City detective Julie Miller (Johansson) ended the reign of terror of satanic serial killer Father Sunday. The case made her a hero, and she has thrown herself into her work ever since. Now a new killer scrawls her name in the blood of an altar boy on the stained glass walls of the church, dragging her back to the darkness she believed she was buried with.
With the help of the former prison chaplain, Father William (Ejiofor), who heard Father’s final confession on Sunday, and the sharp rookie detective Gina Restrepo (Calle), Detective Miller will find a filament connecting a series of serial killers, from HH Holmes to the Zodiac, who could corrupt everything, and everyone, she loves an evil that is far beyond death.
Mikeand version of The Exorcist it is intended to be a “radical new take” on the iconic building that started it William Peter Blattyand the novel of the same name, which was adapted into a star-studded 1973 horror classic Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn.
Mike Flanagan talks writing the new horror film
While he is talking to Entertainment every week, Mike he revealed how he felt when he started writing the film.
“There were times when I would write words and go, ‘Whew! Haven’t I been here before,'” he said.
“It was clear to me that we were in uncharted territory,” Mike admitted. “What scares me about this story is the cruelty and viciousness of the story that is inevitable based on the story we’re telling, but it’s not where I usually go. It made me very uncomfortable, which I think it should. It’s like discomfort means you’re doing it right.”
Mikean eight-time collaborator Samantha Sloyanwho has a small role in the upcoming film, has revealed what it was like to see the expressions on other cast members’ faces when they were filming scenes.
“He takes you in and then he scares the chip out of you,” Samantha divided. “It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen him shoot, just visually. It’s great. And I think it’s so wonderful when those combinations work for him, where you have this lush landscape and then he’s so horrible inside.”
When will The Exorcist: Martyrs be released?
The Exorcist: Martyrs is slated to release in theaters on March 12, 2027.
