If you’re looking for the perfect adventure franchise to indulge in with “spooky season” just around the corner, there’s no better reason to revisit The Mummy movies. Currently, all three entries are in the original version Brendan Fraser trilogy will be available to stream for free on Tubi before the end of the month. That’s right, these monster adventure flicks are available on the platform for free, but only until September 30. Since we’re about a month out from Halloween, now’s the time to revisit these cinematic delights—especially if you don’t already have all three at home.
The Mummy trilogy remains one of the Best Adventure Sagas ever made
Whether you have repeated The Mummy and its sequels over and over, or if you’ve ever wanted to try these adventure flicks but never had the chance, consider this your warning sign that they’re going to be hidden behind some sort of streaming paywall. Tubi, however, is a free platform with a large catalog, one that currently (but only for a limited time) includes these episodes of Brendan Fraser. Starting with The Mummy, Director Stephen Sommers reimagined the classic Monster as an action-packed period piece set during the golden age of archeology in the mid-1920s. When American mercenary Rick O’Connell (Fraser) meets Evelyn “Evie” Carnahan, an Egyptologist and British librarian (Rachel Weisz), find themselves on an adventure that leads to the lost city of Hamunaptra, where they discover a tomb that was to be buried by the sands of time, leading to the resurrection of the evil priest Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), which brings the 10 biblical plagues of Egypt.
While The Mummy is a true classic that proves that action blockbusters can be as funny and intelligent as they are sincerethe story does not end there. Sommers reunited the main cast for the sequel, The Mummy Returnswhere Imhotep is revived again in an attempt to conquer the Scorpion King (Dwayne Johnson) and his cursed army. Now married, Rick and Evie fight to raise their young son, Alex (Freddie Boath), who was kidnapped by the titular mummy because only he, with the Bracelet of Anubis, can lead Imhotep to the tomb of the Scorpion King. In many ways, the sequel recaptures the tone and feel of the first, continuing the arcs of Rick and Evie as they find themselves on a more personal mission than before. Indeed, some may be satisfied with Sommers’ provocative dualism of Mommy flicks and end the adventure there. But if you’re curious, Fraser returns for one final installment, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperorfeaturing an older Rick and Evelyn (now played by Maria Bello after Weisz was unable to reprise her role) they found themselves in post-war China with their abandoned son Alex (now Lucas Ford) deals with a new undead enemy: Jet Liand Qin Shi Huang. Only Fraser and John Hannah (who plays Evie’s brother Jonathan Carnahan) reprise their roles in this one, which is a mixed bag but still mostly fun.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return to ‘The Mummy’ One more time
Whichever entry you revisit, you’ll find that The Mummy movies are fast-paced, humor-filled, action-packed adventures that redefine a horror icon into a dark fantasy foe worth revisiting again and again.. The situation will take time The Mummy the series Indiana Jones– like quality while adding to the mystery and suspense, leaning into the pulpy flavor of the stories that inspired it in the first place. While Tubi offers several “Mummy” movies beyond these three (most of them low-budget horror flicks), these highly bingeable films are the only official entries in the Fraser-led collection – at least for now. Fans have been delighted to learn that the original cast, including Fraser, Hannah, and, yes, Weisz – as well as Oded Fehr like Ardeth Bay – are set to reprise their roles for a fourth entry, and we can only hope it captures the energy of the first two.
We’re excited to hear the news that the upcoming (and untitled) mommy 4 it won’t exactly be a hit, but even if it was, it would likely surpass the third entry based on the cast alone. (Okay, in all seriousness, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor it has its moments. It’s actually not terrible, even if we’re still mad that Weisz was replaced.) So, with Halloween almost upon us and another Mommy in the works, there’s no better time than now to experience this iconic collection of monster themed adventures. Since they’re still streaming free through the weekend, we know how you’ll be spending your Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights… And hey, if you love Sommers’ first two Mommy re-images in particular, check out his other homage Universal Monsters: the Hugh Jackman– led Van Helsingwhich is better than you remember.
The Mummy and its series are available to stream on Tubi.
