Shane Gillis had an awkward moment during his final appearance on “Saturday Night Live” after accidentally dropping an F-bomb on live television.

The 38-year-old comedian slipped up during the Oct. 10 episode of the NBC sketch show, where he returned as a guest for the third time. The incident occurred during a parody of “Green Eggs and Ham” inspired by Dr. Seuss.

Gillis played a man protecting his father and Sam-I-Am trying to convince him to eat green eggs and ham. However, things took an unexpected turn when his character became frustrated and asked Sam to back off.

In the heat of the moment, the comedian dropped an F-bomb. The curse word was accidentally broadcast on the show’s East Coast broadcast, leaving Gillis to deal with the error in real time.

He quickly broke character after realizing what he had just said, waking up before exclaiming, “Jeez!” His response drew laughter from the audience, and the crowd applauded when the sketch briefly lost its rhythm.

The comedian eventually got things back on track. He even waved to the audience as the laughter continued.

The sketch later acknowledged the blunder when cast member Mikey Day called Gillis’ character out for using a bad word, saying, “You’re a loser, and you said a bad word!”

“Yes, I did,” Gillis replied, seemingly taking responsibility. He also apologized at the end of the sketch, saying, “Sorry about earlier.”

Gillis revisited the incident at the end of the show, offering another excuse for the unexpected timing.

Such a mistake rarely happens on the live broadcast of the show, although celebrities like Sabrina Carpenter, Sam Rockwell, and Kristen Stewart have also dropped the F-bomb.

Meanwhile, Gillis’ apology could not save him from criticism after he made a derogatory reference to women during his monologue.

Speaking about his visit to the gym, he described how women dress there as “wh-res”.

“Also, I haven’t been in the gym that long and I didn’t know women just dressed like wh-res now? Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to tell.” [it],” he said.

“Did you see it? I saw it. Did you see the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial artificial colors [shorts]and the frocks go around their cheeks and they all come together at the hole,” he continued, “And don’t look! You are not allowed to watch. For real, do not look, because they are filming. I’m behind ten TikToks right now.”

His joke did not go down well with several fans, who did not hesitate to share their harsh comments online.

“Shane Gillis is completely too ugly and unfunny to say sh-t like this. Why do male actors always have to ban women? I don’t understand.

Someone else said, “This is what happens when you keep telling average white people they’re funny.”

Another commenter wrote, “Not only is it offensive, it’s also a tired joke that’s been around for years.”

However, some found it hilarious, with one fan writing, “As a (older) gym going woman, I can attest to the fact that this is hilarious and true!”

This is not the first time Gillis has courted controversy on the popular sketch comedy show. Back in 2019, he was fired as a team member for making racist comments just four days after being hired.

At the time, clips surfaced of a 2018 episode of his “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast,” in which he used a racial slur against Asians while chatting with comedian and co-host Matt McCusker.

Many directed their anger towards the show, questioning why they had not done their due diligence before hiring her.

Gillis apologized after the massive backlash his comments brought, saying he “pushes boundaries” and “sometimes miss(es)”.

However, executive producer Lorne Michaels said in a statement that they had fired Gillis and were unaware of his previous comments.

“After speaking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining ‘SNL,'” he said, according to USA Today. “We want ‘SNL’ to have a variety of voices and ideas within the show, and we hired Shane because of his talent as an actor and his impressive audition for ‘SNL’.”

The statement continued, “We were not aware of his previous comments that have surfaced in recent days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and inappropriate. We regret that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our investigation process was not up to our standards.”
