Toyota and UPROXX are back on the road for Next Fortour series that puts emerging creators in the New Toyota C-HR All-Electric with Grammy-nominated DJ, producer and songwriter Illenium to talk creativity, big dreams, and playing the long game. Ring gun for the second episode: singer, songwriter, and producer Otis Kane.
During the program, the pair went deep into the future: how to tell a good song from a man who is so good “you have to put it out” (short answer: reliable ears and time away), how to make social media work on your own terms, and how to build a team that you can trust, although Illenium was clear who is driving. “At the end of the day, you’re in charge… nobody’s going to work harder than you.” Bars!
The pair also spoke about the importance of balancing an artist’s responsibility to their fans and their craft.
“I thought at the beginning of my career to get in front of as many people as I could,” says Illenium. “There’s a time when you have to cut back on that and focus on your stuff. That shift really helped Illenium take its live show into the next gear.”
