Meghan McCain takes an age swipe at Joy Behar after a recent comment

Meghan McCain saying she’s not interested in another fight with him Joy Beharbut her answer still came with a sting. After Entertainment Weekly retweeted Behar’s comments about former “The View” co-hosts, McCain spoke to People asking her to weigh in. The exchange brings new attention to a controversy that spanned their time together at the Hot Topics table, including what McCain said about maternity leave that helped convince her to leave the show.

McCain responded after Behar discussed her relationships with past and present panelists in a new interview. Retweeting the Entertainment Weekly report, McCain made it clear that she had seen the requests for a response. “You keep asking me for an answer and frankly, I’m not fighting an 84-year-old man,” she wrote. “She can say whatever she wants at her stage in life.”

McCain did not directly discuss Behar’s account of their working relationship or revisit their on-air arguments in the message.

The drama series finally began with Vulture’s interview with Joy Behar, which was published on Friday. Reflecting on nearly three decades at “The View,” Behar praised the people who currently share the table with her. “This group is very good now,” she said. “They’ve all got a sense of humor. There’s nobody mean over there. Over the years, there’s been one or two little girls.”

Behar did not specify which former co-hosts she was referring to. However, the interview also addressed her history with McCain, whose time on the daytime show included several heated exchanges with the longtime panel.

Their maternity leave exchange remains a sore point

One of their most memorable fights took place in January 2021, after McCain returned from maternity leave. In an on-air exchange, Behar told McCain that she “didn’t miss him.”

McCain later described the moment as particularly painful because she was already struggling with postpartum anxiety and felt uncertain about returning to television. “I had postpartum anxiety. When I was back, I was really nervous. It was like starting TV all over again. I felt unsure. I was trying to joke, ‘I missed you so much.’ If you watch the clip, her response is very sharp,” McCain told Variety in October 2021.

She said she had a “panic attack” and started lactating after the incident. McCain has cited the exchange as a factor in her decision to leave “The View” later that year.

Behar offered a different perspective when asked by Vulture about the split. “I thought, ‘Well, good for you if that’s the worst thing anyone’s ever said to you,'” she said of the on-air fight.

She also characterized their relationship as cordial, even if they weren’t particularly close outside of work, saying, “I wouldn’t say we were having dinner every night, but we got along really well.”

Her recollection differs from the ordeal McCain previously described. For Behar, the exchange did not seem to define the entire working relationship. For McCain, it became part of her explanation for walking away.

McCain keeps her latest response brief

This time, McCain has chosen a much shorter response than the detailed account she gave after leaving the show. Her redistributed report and accompanying message addressed the new attention without offering another lengthy defense of her experience.

At the same time, Behar has praised the current panel while acknowledging that not all combinations of personalities in the past have worked so comfortably.

Neither needs to be sitting at the same table for their history to make headlines. But in her latest message, McCain says she is leaving the argument there.
