Give yourself a hook in clothes from this fall and winter with a little help from celebrity stylist Rob Zangardi.
A luxury outerwear brand, OTHERhe found a way into the closets of the Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grandeand Kim Kardashianproving that sometimes what’s on the outside counts.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with amazing clothes and designers throughout my career, but I still couldn’t find the coats I wanted. As a stylist, I know how much a coat can change the feeling of a look, and even the way you carry yourself. I wanted to create outerwear that could be the suit,” he told ET.
From fur statement jackets to muted-toned puffers, wool peacoats, bombers, crop styles, belt options, trenches, and leather staples, the collection offers plenty of reasons to keep your coat long after you’ve graduated indoors.
“I want someone to put it on and feel like the whole look has come together, then get in and leave it anyway. … Let the coat lead and keep the rest of the look simple. A great coat can make jeans and a T-shirt feel or bring new energy to a dress. I also love when someone makes their own coat and wears it open or with a button, pops the collar, uses the belt,” he says.
Beyond high-quality fabrics, Zangardi puts just as much thought into the finishing touches.
“I think about how the coat feels, how it moves, and how someone wears it. Fit is very important to me, as is comfort and the details that provide piece options, such as hidden buttons, toggles, or a belt.
One who was ahead of the curve? His longtime client Lopez.
“It was a fox coat that I designed with Jennifer in mind, and she was the first person to wear it,” he notes.
When it comes to styling the singer for colder weather, Zangardi likes to work outside.
“With AUTER, the coat is often that starting point. It sets the tone for the rest of the look.”
Next on his wish list for Lopez: a little something borrowed from the boys.
“I love the richness of alpaca, mohair, and cashmere, and shapes that have some volume and movement,” he explains.
“I’d love to see Jennifer in one of our green men’s alpaca coats. Green is her favorite color, and I love the idea of that relaxed, generous shape with something simple underneath. There’s something so good about ‘wearing her coat,’ especially when she makes it all herself.”
