How Imagination Drives the Burning of Kashus Culpepper’s Honda Level Cover

When Kashus Culpepper brought “Til The Sun Goes Down” to FYI Studios at UPROXX for Honda Stage, photographer Paul Carter shot the accompanying cover, shooting a scene powerful enough to make a statement.

Carter’s background makes him a perfect fit for Culpepper. Both came up through live music: Culpepper in honky-tonks and dive bars, and Carter at music festivals and live concerts, shooting everyone from Björk to Eminem. “I fell in love with photography going to concerts… I pushed my way to the front and that slowly led me to shooting portraits of musicians,” Carter says.

Kashus Culpepper is just the kind of artist Carter works with. “It’s very satisfying when an artist, especially an up and coming one, trusts you,” he says. “I like the shooting dance… We plan as much as you can, but a lot of times it’s not what you thought at first, and that’s the imagination part. I want a little chaos in there.”
