From the runway to real life! Gianna Corvinowho founded NY Archivesbringing her collection down the catwalk and straight into your closet this New York Fashion Week.
On Thursday, September 10, from 12 to 2 pm ET, the veteran is working with eBay for a fashion show at her NYC showroom, where models, influencers and tastemakers strut their stuff in 40 hard-to-find looks that shoppers can snap up in seconds.
“We’re not taking the NY Archives out of its world and putting it on a traditional couch; we’re transforming the Archives itself into one. The entire landscape of the showroom will be a backdrop with cheetah-print ceilings, pink shelves full of designer pieces, our pink-and-chrome table, and vintage-lined walls. We’re covering in flowers, music production and runway”.
And while an invite would certainly be cool, you don’t need one to get in on the fun. The old haven hosts a live eBay shopping experience, meaning fashion lovers everywhere can shop, bid, and maybe take home a piece from the runway.
“The guests come in when the live starts and we move into the first runway of 20 looks, ending with a grand finale. Then, we have an intervention, we turn the room for a new group of guests, and we come back with another 20 looks and another show,” she explains.
“We’re taking something that was historically very special and asking what happens when you open it up and let people participate.
So, think of your couch as the hottest place in the house.
As for what fashion fans can expect to see, Corvino looks to the women he knows and loves at the NY Archive for inspiration.
“The look reflects the girls who came into the NY Archives and the vendors who are part of our collection,” she notes.
“I really wanted the style to feel like an extension of the women that already exist in our world.
And it’s a very chic universe to be a part of. The NY Archives has attracted famous fans including Tate MacRae, Panther-pink, Lily Rabe, Apatow magazineand more.
“There are some really amazing pieces including archival Cavalli, sheer mink coats, delicately beaded Blumarine dresses, and Moschino runway pieces. …
Translation: Prepare for everything needed.
“There’s glamour, maximalism, humor, and a little unexpected moments. Some girls are super smart, some sexier, some more unusual. … It’s not just finding a beautiful dress. It’s finding the dress that works for that girl, with the right shoe, the right accessories, and making the whole look make sense. …
But if you see something you love? Don’t spend too long thinking about it.
“Because it’s vintage, often there isn’t another one. As soon as someone buys it, it’s theirs. That gives the runway this energy that you only have when you’re looking at a collection that won’t hit the stores for another six months,” she shares.
And some lucky shoppers could even score a top fashion find for less than a cup of coffee.
“We’re doing special drops, which start at $1 throughout the Live. … A girl can walk down the runway in an amazing archival scene and someone watching on eBay Live can buy that exact piece in that exact moment.”
Talk about instant gratification.
For Corvino, however, the real appeal goes beyond scoring a designer item. It’s about finding something that feels completely your own.
“People want individuality again. We’re exposed to so much fashion now and trends move so fast that it’s very easy for everyone to wear a variation of the same thing. There’s something really satisfying about finding a piece you can’t see on ten other people.”
