Kelly ClarksonThe public feud with the Brooklyn store continues to draw attention, with one of the store’s owners saying the singer is welcome to return anytime. The invitation comes as both sides have shared different accounts of the meeting, and the incident continues to spark debate online. Beyond the original meeting, critics are now raising broader questions about what happened and how the situation has evolved.
Owner of Art Of Play extends an open invitation to Kelly Clarkson
What started as a protest against X has now escalated into a full-blown controversy that continues to divide public opinion.
Clarkson felt judged when she visited Art of Play, comparing her experience to a scene from “Pretty Woman”. The source responded by saying that what Clarkson wanted to buy was not for sale, prompting the singer to double down and call the business a liar.
The store’s co-owner, Adam Rubin, has since given a series of interviews, most expressing how Clarkson’s post had a negative impact on the store.
Despite the public conflict, Rubin said PEOPLE that Clarkson is “welcome anytime” at Art of Play. He said the same in another interview with Mary-Lyn Buckley of 1010 Wins at 92.3 FM, noting that they have “no ill will” against the singer and invited her to come back and “enjoy” what they offer at the store.
In the same breath, however, Rubin also said that they find it a “totally plausible abuse of power,” and they want her to “face social consequences.”
The singer has stopped responding after her second tweet
After Art of Play claimed that Molly, the bird Clarkson wanted to buy, was not for sale, Clarkson posted a second tweet, sharing her interaction with the employee. “Yes, it’s for sale but it costs 15,000 dollars so if you want me to find something similar for you I can,” he told him in a “condescending tone.”
The store has responded several times. In a second update, they reiterated that Molly was not for sale, but that an “identical twin automaton” by the same artist could be purchased for $15,000. They also noted that they had the same item from a different manufacturer that cost $2,000, but Clarkson left the store after about five minutes.
While Rubin has continued to talk about the controversy in interviews, Clarkson has remained silent since sending her second tweet.
Art Of Play Raised $15,000 Price Tag To $15 Million
In her second post, Clarkson linked an image of a price that read “Singing Bird $15,000.” Rubin has since explained that the price for the bird’s “twin” was what the artist, Bliss Kolb, was willing to sell.
Amidst the controversy, the store has joined the frenzy and raised the price to $15 million, saying they are now willing to sell Molly for that amount. “We’ve raised the price due to popular demand. It now costs $15 million,” said Rubin curved.
His statement sparked another wave of backlash from Clarkson supporters, asking why they raised the price if it wasn’t for sale. “We’ll see what happens when an eccentric billionaire comes along and buys the bird for $15M. Are they going to say the same BS again?” one person said.
The Kelly Clarkson Controversy started a wider conversation

One of the online debates stemming from the drama is whether Clarkson was wrong to use her celebrity status to criticize small business.
Some pointed out that if she had a good experience and shared it with her 8 million followers, it would not have caused controversy and would have been appreciated. However, as her experience was negative, critics questioned whether her celebrity status had become part of the problem.
Other business owners also weighed in on social media, criticizing Art of Play’s handling of the controversy. Some argued that the situation could be resolved with a simple apology, which the store has yet to offer. As small business consultant Jay Aldebert says, “Sometimes the smartest financial decision is knowing when to stop talking, News week.
The dispute has no clear resolution
Clarkson’s complaint has taken on a life of its own, with the controversy now extending beyond the question of how she was treated.
Security footage was later released online, but the video had no audio, leaving viewers unable to determine which account was correct. For now, the controversy is still a situation he said.
Despite Rubin’s invitation, there is little indication that Clarkson plans to return to the store anytime soon.
