Andrew Rannells opens up about dating Anderson Cooper in the past.
The 48-year-old Tony Award-nominated actor previously revealed that he had a brief romance with the 59-year-old journalist when he was 25 years old.
In the last column of the magazine OMG happy podcast with him Girls co-star Zosia Mamet, Andrew share new details about dating Andrew.
“I just did it Hair explosion on Broadway and I wasn’t famous at all, but I met him through friends and we dated off and on for about, I don’t know, the whole thing took about nine months,” the actor said. “When I look back, it was just…
“He was really cool and so smart and he would do things like call me from a satellite phone… and be like, ‘I was just thinking about you.’ And helicopters would go behind him,” Andrew continue “And I was like, ‘This is the greatest moment of my life.’ And then I found out… I was very young and I thought, ‘I guess we’re in love.’ And maybe he was making calls on that satellite phone. There were probably several people he was studying with… And I was so hurt that I was like, ‘I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it.”
“So it ended, not badly, but it just went out because then I left for work.”
At another podcast appearance earlier this year, Andrew revealed that his short-lived romance with Andrew inspired the story for his character Elijah in it Girls.
“I said Lena [Dunham] and [co-creator] Jenny Conner story about when i was 25 who had a date Anderson Cooperand I told them about the experience and what that was like,” he explained.
“Then it became Elijah’s story in the series,” he said.
now, Andrew has been in a long-term relationship with a fellow actor Take Watkinswho he met while playing there The Boys in the Band on Broadway back in 2018.
“We met and I felt like a lazy actor that I fell in love with my co-star. I was like this so cliché,” Andrew said to him The Drew Barrymore show in 2020. “Did you see it too? It’s very attractive. What was I supposed to do? No date on it? It was weird. Like the first time we kissed it was for work… but it was weird, it was like, Oh we’re getting paid to do this.”
