It is a double problem.
AMC Theaters has released the first look at their new “Dune: Part Three” collectible popcorn buckets. And to set off Paul Atreides in style, the theater suite has not one design, but two designs, including one bucket that has two sand heads. In the other, there is a “Thumper design in action” in a “Sandworm Thumper” bucket. For those not familiar with all things spice, the Thumpers are what Fremen warriors plant in the desert sands to summon the worms from their underground homes.
The designs are, shall we say, a little NSFW. They resembled popular sex toys featured in an SNL sketch in which a frisky teenager’s thoughts turned to something more than popcorn when he looked at the gaping mouth of the sandworm.
The company said the double sandworm bucket is perfect for couples, because it’s “easier to share popcorn.” There’s also a lightup cup, though no word on pricing. A bucket usually costs around $25. “Dune: Part Three” opens December 18, 2026 and brings back franchise stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson, as well as director Denis Villeneuve.
The collectibles have become big business for the chain, with AMC CEO Adam Aron expecting the company to make more than $100 million selling the themed buckets this year.
AMC has released collection buckets for major films such as “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, but the chain admitted that all eyes were on the “Dune” follow-up.
“AMC’s Sandworm popcorn bucket for ‘Dune: Part Two’ became a viral phenomenon, and we knew ‘Dune’ fans would have high expectations for what’s to come,” said Hank Green, senior vice president of food and beverage at AMC. “From the moment we began designing the ‘Dune: Part Three’ collectibles, our goal was to exceed those fans’ expectations. The Sandworm Thumper and Double Sandworm collectibles take the experience to the next level with designs straight from the movie.”
In other words, look at the memes.
