Ding, dong, the baddest witch in town is back! “American Horror Story: 13” brought back former Supreme Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) for the Avengers-style crossover season, just when the witches needed her.
Last time we checked in on the Murphyverse’s favorite witch deal, they had suffered a major loss, after the Supreme Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson) was murdered by the “Hotel” killer James Patrick March (Evan Peters) and his group of historical serial killers – at the behest of the mysterious Mr. Nas (Paul Anthony Kelly), who seems to be Satan himself collecting souls given to build the world and conquer it.
Just as all hope seemed lost, Fiona and some of her best friends return to rally the troops at Miss Robichaux’s Academy. But there is still a great enemy to defeat and many mysteries left to solve. Watch below for highlights from Episodes 7-8 of “American Horror Story: 13.”
Episode 7: “The Worst Witch of Them All”
The episode began immediately after Cordelia’s murder, with Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) seeking out the witches for battle. Mallory (Billie Lourd) watched over the body of the Supreme while the other witches hunted the serial killers in the house – while James played the piano in the background for almost the entire episode.
Madison and Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) confronted Jeffrey Dahmer (Seth Gabel), and made a meta reference to, of course, tuning into his season of “Monster.” Madison had a bit of a fang over the serial killer before stabbing her unconscious, but Morwenna (Alex Consani) – one of this season’s new witches with resurrection powers – healed her easily. Then they shot Jeffrey alive – or I guess, dead again.
With Cordelia dead, and apparently too far gone to revive, Madison took the lead during the attack against the killers. Meanwhile, Coco (Leslie Grossman), a witch with the power to track people’s calories and metabolism who was first introduced in “Apocalypse,” began to notice that presence was burning too much energy.

Combining the Queen’s voodoo doll powers and Coco’s metabolic powers, the witches teamed up to kill the Zodiac – apparently diabetic – while Madison and Morwenna teamed up to try and bring Cordelia back to life. Mallory also sent the Nightstalker back in time to his old neighborhood so he could be beaten to death, and Ophelia (Avantika) promised to keep the secret of her fellow witch’s time travel powers.
Then, while James was playing, the front door of the Academy opened… It was Fiona! In for a rude awakening at the sight of her dead daughter. But she didn’t stop crying, because she immediately started sparring with James – after he finally got up from the piano. He tried to recruit her for Satan’s cause, but Fiona was not taken back by the devil. It was Cordelia’s spell to call her back from hell.
She turned the conspirators to kill James to her side, and they destroyed him greatly. Then she killed them just as easily with her powers. After returning to her daughter’s body, the witch used her powers to bring Cordelia back to life.
“You called me and I came,” Fiona told her daughter. There wasn’t much time for pleasantries though, with Fiona telling the witches it’s time to band together to save the world.

Episode 8: “Hell No”
Back to knot pine we go! This episode began with a heartfelt reunion between Fiona and Cordelia, remembering how they used to lean on each other when Cordelia fell ill as a child.
Fiona told her daughter about her experiences in hell, and how being involved in restoring her memories and mistakes helped her see the error of her past behaviour. Cordelia was willing to let it all go, knowing she needed her mother’s strength to help defeat the coming darkness. Fiona decided that helping Cordelia develop the strength to become a “Supreme Overlord for the ages” would be punishment.
Through a sludgy autopsy and a snake hidden inside one of the killers’ bodies, Cordelia and Fiona deduce that the devil was behind the attack. Which led Cordelia to descend into hell to find Papa Legba (Orlando Jones) – a devil friend and guardian of hell – for help.
The trip was not so friendly, as Papa quickly only temporarily blinded Cordelia – an echo of her fate in “Coven” before her rise to Supreme. She brought him out of hell knowing that Fiona had escaped through Cordelia’s spell; she wanted to make a deal to let the knowledge of her spell die with her, in exchange for a way to stop Satan. But Papa said he couldn’t do that without calling Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) into the picture. The twist? One soul must go down to hell until another can come up.
Fiona volunteered, flashing back to her long tenure in the “knotted pine” maze. But Cordelia knew that Fiona would be the only person able to convince Marie to help the cause; so Queen finished the sacrifice in her place. She ends up reunited with the racist tormentor Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) down there, as the most annoying customer at Fried Chicken Chubbie’s endless customer line – the voodoo witch’s version of hell. Don’t worry though, the Queen got her revenge: deep frying Delphine’s face and making her taste her own skin.

Back in the land of the living, Marie came for another confrontation with Fiona. But Papa quickly interrupts their reading session, assuring them that white and black magic must work together to defeat the devil, “or everything you know and love will die.”
Fiona and Marie agreed to catch him, and officially teamed up to defeat the devil. How do they do it? Will the internet survive when Constance and Fiona end up in the same room? Where is this going with only five episodes left?
I’ll see you next week.
