After weeks of speculation, the “Girls” alum finally announced that he will be playing Otis Wardell, the film’s main antagonist, in the “Heat” series. The character is described as the psychopathic leader of an ultra-violent group of home invaders, and many fans are eager to see what new dimensions Driver will bring to the role as he takes it from the page to the big screen.

Driver confirmed his role during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, where he joked, “I think I can say that,” after being asked about the rumors that he would be playing the film’s main villain. Then he joked, “But I’ll find out pretty soon,” if he wasn’t supposed to say anything.

The “House of Gucci” actor previously worked with Mann on the 2023 biopic, “Ferrari.”

“Heat is a masterpiece,” Driver told Eisen. “I love Michael, I loved working with him [on] Ferrari, but work on this? I’m excited. The team is so awesome.”

Leonardo DiCaprio he will reportedly take over for the late Val Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis, while he is Christian State cast as Lt. Vincent Hanna and Stephen Graham like Neil McCauley.

He also said that Mann’s recent shooting accident at a Los Angeles gun range has not stopped production in any way. He revealed that production starting in December was “already part of the plan.”

As for the director’s health, Driver said the 83-year-old is doing “good”. Driver went on to say, “I texted him. He responded right away. He was at work the next day.”

Many have expressed concerns online that the frequent filming delays were due to the difficulties in creating both a prequel and a sequel within one film. However, Driver didn’t seem that concerned.

“As a script, it’s even more condensed and simplified,” he explained. “Obviously, in the book you have to have a lot of descriptions, but with the movie it’s just a shot.”

Although fans are excited to see the “Paterson” actor appear in “Heat,” many are disappointed that he said he would not be returning to a galaxy far, far away in the same interview.

In October 2025, Driver revealed that he had been working with the director Steven Soderbergh on a film set after the events of 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker”. The film, called “The Hunt for Ben Solo,” would have brought Driver’s character back to life in some way.

During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Driver confirmed that his time in a galaxy far, far away is over. “It’s over. No more ‘Star Wars.’ We tried,” he said. “We tried to do another one. But they were like, ‘No, he’s dead.’

“We worked on it for a few years, really and really earnestly, for two years,” he continued. “We got a script together that was really good with Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt and Soderbergh and I; we all worked on it.”

Adam Driver praises fan reaction to ‘The Hunt For Ben Solo’

Although fans were disappointed to hear Driver’s candid comments, they were delighted to hear the actor’s gratitude for the fans’ efforts to get Disney to revive the film.

“The fan reaction to it, though, was pretty amazing,” Driver said. “I didn’t expect it to be billboards and people flying planes and things like that. That was pretty cool.”

Unfortunately, Driver said that “the ship has sailed” when it comes to the movie that was busted. Many fans are reading between the lines and hoping that the return of Ben Solo will be included in the next three “Star Wars”, but that remains to be seen.

As of now, fans can look forward to seeing Driver return in the “Heat” series. Production is expected to begin in December 2026.
