It was a balmy summer night in New York when the first guests started streaming out of the elevator and into The Standard’s Penthouse in the East Village for our 20th anniversary party. They were greeted with panoramic views of Manhattan, as well as decorations and costumes of course—the bash was Y2K themed, after all. The entire night was a celebration of the lasting impact of the 2000s and our Aughts Effect cover stories and portfolio.
Fittingly, Monique Coleman, one of our cover stars, was in attendance in a hot pink off-the-shoulder dress. She chatted the night away with another Popsugar cover star, Taryn Delanie Smith, who was decked out in a cheetah print number. Other celebrity attendees included Kaylor Martin, Azzy Milan, and, of course, much of the Popsugar crew.
In addition to the 360-degree views, guests enjoyed taking photos in the retro Majestic Photobooth and receiving tooth jewelry from NYC-based artist Tooth Jem. They listened to tunes by DJ Denise Rénee while sipping specialty cocktails like The Cheetahrita, as well as our N/A choice, Poppi’s apple bitters. Some were scoffing at Magnolia Bakery’s signature cupcakes, and couldn’t wait to dig into our gift bags, which were filled with 2000s-inspired products: Juicy Couture’s signature Viva La Juicy perfume and elixir; Maybelline’s Great Lash and Sky Tube Tubing mascaras; Neutrogena’s Hydro Boosting Water Gels; Old Navy flip-flops; Bubly Wine Refreshers; Clinique’s Moisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator; Power Crunch protein bars; Lancome Juicy Tubes; Fields Good Cookies; and Fruit Roll-ups. Just the gift bag of our 2006 dreams.
