Jane Doe Accused rap mogul Jay-Z of sexual assault formally retracted her claims, saying in court documents that her claims were false and that she never met him.
“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter did not force me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. an anonymous woman he wrote in the 12-page affidavit, which was reviewed by CBS News. Jay-Z’s legal name is Shawn Carter. “There is no truth in my claims against Mr. Carter.”
The woman said she understood that “false allegations have caused Mr. Carter great pain, suffering and damage that is completely irreparable.”
The woman previously claimed that she was raped by Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs while a third person watched. The first lawsuit, filed in October 2024 and amended to include Carter in December 2024, alleged that the woman was invited to a party after the Video Music Awards when she was a teenager. She said that after she had a drink at the next party, she started to feel lightheaded and went to bed. She then said that Carter, Combs and another woman entered the room, and that Combs and Carter forced her with the woman present.
In her statement retracting the allegations against Carter, the woman said she had seen a Facebook ad looking for people who might be involved in a sexual assault. against Combswhich serves a four year sentence for charges related to prostitution. She said the ad triggered memories of being raped as a teenager. When she contacted the company about the ad, she was connected to Buzbee Law Company, she said.
In her declaration, the woman said that the first trial in October 2024 was filed Tony Buzzbee and his fortress unknown to her. She said that in January 2025, after the trial was amended to include Carter, she began to doubt her claims against him and “I never went to a party with famous people.” She said her lawyers dropped her lawsuit after she told them that.
Carter has denied all allegations and has sued the woman, Buzbee and the Texas-based law firm, accusing them of conspiring to pressure him into a secret financial settlement. Carter said that after he refused to pay an “outrageous demand letter” sent by Buzbee in October 2024, the lawsuit was amended to include him.
A malicious prosecution case against Buzbee and his law firm continues in New York. Carter filed a notice Thursday saying he was voluntarily dropping the woman as a defendant in the lawsuit.
He wrote that the “trauma” he, his family and loved ones have suffered because of the allegations “can never be erased.”
The woman’s new attorney, James Blair Newman Jr., said that she “alleged that she was the victim of a sexual assault, but that she was completely wrong in her allegations pointing to Mr. Carter, and that those allegations were false.”
Buzbee continues to represent other plaintiffs who are suing Combs for sexual assault. Victims have been accused of abuse at parties in New York, California and Florida. Combs’ lawyers have called Buzbee’s lawsuit “shameless publicity stunts, designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear that lies will be spread about them.”
