Michael Mann, the filmmaker best known for the classic crime drama “Heat,” was injured at a shooting range in Los Angeles on Saturday, his representative told CBS News.
The representative said Sunday that Mann had been treated at a hospital for a “superficial injury” and had been released.
“On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon was accidentally discharged during a training session resulting in the serious injury of film director Michael Mann,” the producer said in a statement.
Mann, 83, has apparently been an experienced target shooter for decades, and the accident happened at a licensed gun range.
In addition to “Heat,” Mann’s filmography includes such crime classics as “Collateral” and “Thief.” He is still very active in Hollywood in his 80s and recently directed the film “Ferrari,” with Adam Driver, and is developing a sequel to “Heat,” which is expected to begin filming early next year.
