Justin Timberlake setting the record straight on a long-held rumor that his song “What Goes Around… Comes Around” is about an ex-girlfriend Britney Spears.
The 45-year-old entertainer released the track in 2006 as part of his second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSoundsand it is about betrayal and forgiveness, he shared before.
People have long thought that the song was about him Britneyas it came over four years after they broke up, with some thinking it was a sequel to “Cry Me a River”.
At the time of his new appearance complexthe YouTube series, “Re-rank,” Justine he took a moment to confirm if the song is really about her.
“Perhaps I should dispel a rumor at this point, which has been around forever, and it seems like it’s not a personal story for me,” said the singer and actor. “It’s really a personal story from a friend. I asked permission.”
Justine he explained that it was about his friend who was going through a breakup.
“He was just passing through and he was telling me what had happened and I said, ‘Do you mind if I write about this?’ And I’m reporting, my friend said, ‘Yeah, that b**** lamp. What goes around comes around.’ And I was like, ‘I have to go. Thank you,’” he shared.
“This song was written in, I mean, damn near 20 minutes,” Justine added. “Like, it just flowed.
Justine and Britney dated for three years, from 1999 to 2022.
If you missed it, Britney she recently released the song, “She’ll Never Be Me,” which was a previously unreleased track from the recording sessions for her third album, Britney. In fact, the song was co-written by him Justine!
