Former child actor Brandon “Bug” Hall is asking the public for financial assistance as he and his wife prepare to welcome their sixth child.
The 41-year-old, best known for playing Alfalfa in the 1994 film “The Little Rascals,” launched a GoFundMe campaign after experiencing financial difficulties while settling his family on new properties in rural Arkansas.
Although Bug Hall explained that unexpected expenses, late bills, and the cost of making living arrangements for the new baby left him in need of support, his fundraiser was questioned.
Bug Hall appeals for financial support before baby arrives
Hall took to GoFundMe on Thursday, November 5, explaining that he and his family had successfully moved into their new home but were still struggling to make necessary arrangements.
The actor revealed that he, his wife, and their five children were currently living in a camper while they worked to set up their new home.
according to TMZHall said they were short of several items needed to make their new live setup fully functional.
He also revealed that the family had fallen behind on some bills, including phone and propane payments for their camper. The unexpected cost of electric hookup service had added to their financial woes.
Expecting his sixth child in less than a month, Hall said he hopes to resolve the outstanding issues before the baby arrives.
“We’re all very happy to be where we are, and we even enjoy being rough, but baby six is less than a month away, and I really need some help getting the last few things down beforehand,” he wrote.
Fundraiser surpasses $2,000 goal as donations continue
Hall initially set a fundraising goal of $2,000, hoping to get enough support to cover the expenses facing his growing family.
However, the campaign quickly attracted donations exceeding his original expectations. The fundraiser has collected over $9,000 from over 100 donations by November 7th.
The campaign, titled “Helping the Hall-Barnetts Finish Before Baby Six,” explains that the money will help the family keep up with bills and prepare their camper and property for the new person.
Hall is married to Jill, whom he married in 2017. The couple already have five children, four daughters and one son, and their sixth child is expected later this month.
Bug Hall hits back at critics telling him to get a job: ‘I’m busy building a farm and feeding my family’
On social media, reports of Hall’s GoFundMe request did not go down well, with several stressing that there were other pressing matters to raise money for.
In X’s viral post, a person wrote, “If this man and his wife weren’t in an accident and unable to work… Why is it up to anyone else to send you money before your SIXTH child is born? You should have invested in condoms.”
Another said, “Fk that! He CHOOSE to have 6 kids. No one made him. He CHOOSE to walk away from acting. No one made him. If he can afford 80 acres, he can afford to stay. He can sell some of the acres if he’s that desperate. Use some of the $ for a vasectomy!”
“And he did 5x what he asked,” wrote a third person. “I’ll never get over what dumb peeps choose to do with their money…there are people who need help with medical expenses, etc, and you chose to help a guy who can’t afford 5 kids but chose to have a 6th.”
Hall didn’t hold back as he actively responded to critics, especially those who asked him to “get a real job.”
In one response, he said, “Nah. I’m busy building a farm and feeding my family and community.”
“I often have jobs, and I gave up ‘my dreams’ to pursue a better life for my family,” said the former actor.
Hall thanked those who were willing to contribute, acknowledging that many people were suffering from financial difficulties themselves.
“I don’t deserve more than anyone else, but I want in your charity that you help where you can,” he said.
He also encouraged supporters who could not make financial donations to share the campaign or remember his family in their prayers.
The actor explained that his immediate plan was to complete the remaining work on the building within two weeks so that he could take up work before his wife gave birth.
Bug Hall’s decision to leave Hollywood and embrace living off the grid
Hall’s latest financial plea comes years after he decided to step away from his acting career.
The former child star previously explained that his work in film and television had become difficult to reconcile with his religious beliefs.
In a YouTube video titled “Into the Unknown”, released in April 2025, he discussed his decision to leave the entertainment industry, admitting that it had not been an easy choice because he loved acting.
“It was a real test, but it was something I was very adamant about, and I still am,” he said.
“The irony was that I really enjoyed the work. I wasn’t a bit disappointed in my love of work. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed film and television and the storytelling process more than any of you.”
Hall had described himself as a “radical Catholic extremist” and said his acting career was no longer compatible with his faith.
according to People Magazinehe also gave away most of his possessions and savings as part of what he described as a “vow of poverty.”
He later moved his family to an approximately 80-acre property near Mountain View, Arkansas, where they planned to build a home and adopt an off-grid lifestyle.
Bug Hall: From childhood fame to father of six
Hall gained fame as a child actor when he portrayed Alfalfa Switzer in the 1994 comedy “The Little Rascals”.
The film became one of his most recognizable projects, making him a familiar face to audiences who grew up watching the popular children’s comedy.
He also appeared in productions including “The Stupids,” “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves,” and television series such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
However, his priorities have changed a lot since he started his acting career.
Now preparing to become a father of six, Hall seems focused on raising his family away from the entertainment industry and building a self-sufficient life in Arkansas.
