The streaming era has paved the way for a much wider selection of books to reach the screen, whether as movies or television series. Netflix, in particular, has been aggressive in picking up rights to acclaimed and bestselling novels, finding success this year with everything from Shelby Van Peltand Amazingly clear shapes to Alice Feeneyand His & Hers. Now, he is officially an Australian thriller author Dervla McTiernanit’s time to shine again. Her star has been rising for a while now, with two of her previous novels, The Rule of Murder and the famous people What happened to Nina?both optioned to adapt by FX and Lingo Pictures, respectively. Another one of her titles is now getting the television treatment.
Easy Tiger Productions, the banner behind the acclaimed romantic comedy series Colin From Counthas won a heated bidding war for the rights to McTiernan’s 2026 novel Three Reasons for Revenge. At this time, no streamer or other distributor has been appointed, meaning that it still needs to be brought to the wider market and sold before it can really take off. However, there is already a big name on board to sign up Shaun Grant. Most famous recently for writing the Jacob Elord– directed miniseries The narrow road to North North and the 2021 Caleb Landry Jones– directed psychological drama Nitramhe shared in a statement how confident he was from the start that McTiernan’s last was going to be on the small screen. “From the moment I first read it Three Reasons for RevengeI immediately saw it as a television series,” he said.

🕯 Hearing Jonathan Lynn · 1985 You’re the funniest thing in the room, and you’re not in control of the pace.
Clue is a murder mystery lifted from a board game, played at breakneck speed by one of the greatest comic book ensembles ever assembled, and refuses to promise a single answer. There you are: loud, fast, impossible to plan around, and the reason why anyone had a good time. Case notes
You keep the energy up and the plan loose, and people have a much better evening because of it.
Three different endings were sent to different cinemas in 1985, so the answer depended on which screen you walked into.
It moved completely, found its audience on video, and went back to cinemas for its fortieth anniversary with the random endings again.
Your fault is that chaos is excellent company and terrible plan.
Chaotic Quickly Socialist Non-serious
🪟 Rear window Alfred Hitchcock · 1954 You look, and you notice what everyone else is going through.
Hitchcock caught James Stewart in one room with a broken leg and a view of his neighbors, and he built a whole thriller out of a man looking out of a window and being right. You’re the one who clocks the details that no one mentioned, and you’re usually right before you can prove it. Case notes
You are quietly the most observant person in your circle and you notice changes before anyone mentions them.
The courtyard was one of the largest sets ever built at Paramount, with thirty-one apartments and working plumbing.
It was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Director and is still considered the cleanest thriller ever made.
Your risk is that watching and doing something about it are not the same thing, and you know it.
an observer a patient Inquisitive Separated
📦 Se7 at David Fincher · 1995 You take things forward, and you don’t put them down.
Fincher made a serial killer movie where the detectives lose all time, shot so dark that the studio complained, and refused to change the ending that everyone told him would sink the movie. You have the same denial in you, and it cost you more than you let on. Case notes
You are the one who keeps going after everyone else has accepted that there is no solution.
New Line wanted a different ending and Brad Pitt reportedly refused to do the film without the one they shot.
It turned Fincher from the director who had a bad time on Alien 3 into a unique thriller director of his generation.
Your weakness is that carrying something for so long takes a real toll, and you’re usually the last to notice.
Non-stop Bad Principal Haunted
📸 A reminder Christopher Nolan · 2000 No one can follow your thinking, and you will get there anyway.
Nolan told the story backwards, so the audience knows as little as the man in the middle, and the whole film becomes an argument about what you believe you decided to believe. You arrive at the right answer by a path that no one else would have taken. Case notes
You work things out on both sides, and it takes longer to explain the path than the answer did.
It was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing in 2002 and didn’t win either, which still baffles people.
It cost about nine million dollars, made more than five times that, and built the career that led to everything after that.
Your fault is trusting your own version of events a little more than the evidence supports.

Three Reasons for Revenge revolves around “three seemingly unrelated people caught in a deadly web of deception and unhealed wounds.” The three live in completely different houses across Melbourne, but they all receive gifts that seem to be secrets, each of them carefully designed to suit the recipient to a T. However, they are all carefully thought out to destroy their lives from the inside out. It is up to Detective Sergeant Judith Lee to find out who could have had such intimate knowledge of the lives of each of the three people and their vulnerabilities to make terrible gifts. Making things even more amazing is that they all seem to link back to the sudden and mysterious disappearance of a woman who had reported an attack less than a day before she disappeared.
